P2 Cards to new MacBookPro's

Hi all
I have a new 17" MBP and have just been sent a HVX200 from my office, I'm a freelance field producer for a large entity in the USA. Trouble is where the P2 cards slotted into older versions of the MacBook, it seems the slots available in the new laptop won't accommodate the P2 card directly. Is there a required adapter etc? I have all the codecs etc loaded for work with FCP but no apparent way to ingest the cards???

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,
Mark.

If you have the camera, its much easier to firewire the camera in 1394 device mode, and mount the P2 cards as drives. drivers are not required, you can just dump the MXF files across, and then later import them to FCP.

Note that FCP converts the MXF stuff to MOV to work with it.

i use the dual adapter with my mbp. that way my camera isn't tied up transferring files. so far, no problems. that being said, do some searching on dual adapter. there are some horror stories about them suddenly just not working any more. i believe that may be a leopard thing, and i'm still on tiger. do some searching for more info though.

Thanks all, fortunately I am also on Tiger so thanks for that heads up slimchrisp.

Cheers,
Mark.
