New idea for a feature/short...

This is a new idea I got for a possible feature/short and I wanted to see how people reacted to it. Some honest feedback on if it interests you or if you would watch it. And if it sounds stupid to you please tell me that too. haha

"The Other 90"

Everyone knows that you only use 10% of your brain. But what if something happened one day and gradually people start using more and more of their brain until some are using all 100%. What would this cause? What would people be able to do with that much of their brain?

Just a little concept i thought of while chillin in Italy lol. I don't have much more thought out but it seems really original to me so I was curious to know what other people thought. Thanks

The key to better understanding the proposed idea in your post is in the second paragraph. You wrote there 2 magical words "what if?". This is known as a brain storming technique, to come up with sparks of ideas for plots; what if? one day so and so... this goes on and on until one of the what ifs clicks as the one!

This is one of many ideas you should bring up before settling in on your idea for a story. Try thinking of what change occurs to your main character and what forces in his or her world bring these changes about. Once you know what the change is and what caused it, write this out in one sentence. You then have what some call a premiss others call it a log line or controlling idea. That should be your idea for a story.

As for this "what if" idea, yes it sounds interesting for a comedy, to smart to complicated sort of thing ignorance is bliss etc...

This idea was done in the movie phenomenon. John Travolta plays George Malley, who has a cancer which causes the rest of the 90% of his brain to engage. Only at end of movie does everyone find out its actually cancer causing his abilities. It progresses and he dies.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, like I said it was just a concept. I have an idea for some scenes and characters but thats about it right now.

I was actually thinking of this being a drama/thriller type. In the same field as the happening type thing. Where one day things just start happening and people change.

It could be a comedy, like an opposite of Idiocracy. But I would rather do it with some suspence and scentific material.

Heat Vision and Jack sort of takes on this concept. If you don't know what I'm talking about, definitely check that one out. It's a TV pilot directed by Ben Stiller, starring Jack Black, Owen Wilson, Christine Taylor, and Ron Silver. It might be a little different from what you're imagining...

"I KNOW EVERYTHING!"

I wonder.....rather than everyone developing this ability to some extent, wouldn't it be a better story if only some people did? Then there's the whole 'us vs. them' conflict to throw in there, in addition to everything else.

Just a thought.

To me, this is like half an idea. You have a set-up (people use 100% of their brains) but no pay-off (what happens THEN?).

So what happens after this then?

Thanks for everyones replys.

The reason for this is to decide to go on and write this or to focus on one of the other ideas that I have.

You only use 10% of your brain at ONE TIME. You use different parts of your brain for different tasks, so obviously you can't use all of your brain power at the same time or else you should be deemed the god of multi-tasking.

But you could change the plot so that some people gain larger brain power to make the story semi-believable. It could be the next step in human evolution or something. That's a start.

How about the whole human spices forgetting how to use their brain- like from using 10% to 1%
I think it's a better story there!
People forgetting how to drive their cars -talk and eventually how to eat!

The result would more than likely be insanity or total boredom and depression.

The old saying fine line between genius and insanity

I believe there's an entire genre of movies that takes this concept. Zombies.
