Canon user thread - post your pictures here

Yea great shot ... such character. Love it.

And amazing about RAW saving you from such a drastic catastrophe

Had an issue matching the sky ... need to learn how to replace it ... but here's a panorama I tried the other day at that sunflower field:

Eagle Falls, Lake Tahoe in the evening (Canon 20D)

This is freekin Epic. This would really be a great place to shoot in 4K with RED, at the exact same time of day.

wow that shot is mega intense.

Here are some headshots i took recently.

Okay guys, I'm calling on your expertise here. Some of you may have read my other thread about a jewerly catalogue. Well here's the first shot. Client is impressed, but would like the cuts in the stone to be made more evident. Anybody have any ideas of if its possible in Lightroom or Photoshop, or if its just best to take another photo? If that's the case, what would make the lines and edges stand out?

Thanks for any and all advice,

Kegan

Kegan, I don't know if this is any good for you or not. I selected just the stones and applied shapening. Does it help?

Thanks a lot Larry. The stones look good but it was the crystal (my mistake) that they wanted sharper. I duplicated the layer, added a high pass filter with a radius of 7, changed the layer mode to 'overlay' and this is what I got..

I think my eyes are blurring the lines now. I can't tell much difference anymore haha.

Oh ... the crystal, right. :) Well, I had a thought of something like this. Reshoot with a super close up of the stones? Maybe a similar concept with the crystal? It seems hard to bring out the most amount of detail and at the same time get all of what you did in the original shot.

Oh well, it's fun to play with though you have time probably knocking at the door.

It does seem rather difficult. I realize that, so it is something I'm going to have to discuss with the client. They actually wanted more of the chain as well. I'm meeting with them tomorrow to go over some of the shots. I'll have 3 other pieces by the end of tonight (long night..) and I'll post for review.

Thanks Larry. A star filter? Can I find that in Photoshop? These are untouched, so any post advice is appreciated too. Thanks for the link too.

On my way to work I pass by an old battleship graveyard .. .there are about 50 old naval ships rusting away in this section of water. It's interesting to look at as I drive by, so I stopped the other day to test out my new 70 - 300mm lens ... didn't get the shots I wanted, but thought this one turned out half way decent:
