Thinking of swtching back to Premiere

I used to be a premiere user up until version 6.5 ,I switched to Sony Vegas and have been happy up until a month or so ago and now I want a program that can do multiple sequences in a single project.

So my question is, why should I go with Premiere instead of moving to FCP?

go with fcp for so many reasons, I come from a vegas backgorund then moved to fcp a year ago, never looked back, vegas gave me the fundation that is needed to excel in a program like fcp

I could list my reasons but they would only show my preference bias.

I have both and my choice is CS3 Premiere. (by a country mile).

I suggest you try and get some "hands on" experience with both before you jump.

What is your Platform Preference?

Yes, get your hands on both. Premiere CS3 (or the "Pro" series in general) is such a step up from 6.5 that it's not even worth comparing.

I'm a Premiere user and have used FCP before. I hated FCP for so many different reasons: its need to render everything into Quicktime, the moronic scene detect feature and the cumbersome Log and Capture for P2 editing, among others. But then again I'm also bias toward Premiere since that's the program I started on.

Well both are powerfull applications, I suggest that you test drive both, play with them, test the software in your workflow enviroment,

one of them will quickly stand out to you to make more sense and work better, go with that one.

I have little experience with FCP but I can say that CS3 is lightyears ahead of where Premiere was in the 6.5 days. I use it daily on a PC and its stable, strong, and does everything I need. The only thing I wish it could do was OMF export for ProTools, but its not a feature that I desperately need either.

You do realize that you can have many instances of Vegas open at the same time and nest projects in one another? If you make a change in one instance of Vegas, any projects that timeline is nested in will immediately reflect them.

True, but Vegas 8 has issues with nesting, I just finished up on a 40min film with 20 scenes and I tried to nest all of the scenes into one project and Vegas 8 didn't like that, crashed on me 3 times, I would go back to 7, but I did all of the editing in 8, so I ended up rendering all of the scenes out one by one.

Yes, Premiere is better than Vegas...fewer headaches...but FCP is WORLDS better than Premiere. I used Premiere for 10 years and recently switched...I'm wondering what else in this world I've missed out on in life!

"held"

FCP gets you work, Premiere should get you work but that oh so lame "STIGMA"

anyway.. get whatevre u are comfy with.

I've taught Premiere at the university level for more than 10 years and recently tried my hand at FCP. Each has its advocates. I say "Go with what answers your production needs."

Both are winners in their own world. It's the results that count. My results are comfortably handled with Premiere.

as soon as Apple does its next incremental OS update you will find out.

dont know what the big deal about FCP is...I use Premiere and my work is better than 90% of fcp editors out there..I just need something to cut music videos with...its the user not the tools you blame...recently landed a huge contract and they didnt care less if I used Premiere, they simply loved the work I do..

..sorry sounds a little big-headed but this is in response to ppl calling Premiere 'lame'

Ya know, if people would post the reasons they hate PPRo or FCP instead of saying "this ones lame man" etc. the threads would actually be useful.

I like PPRo (I use cs3), I use a PC so fcp isn't an option (come on apple, get with the times here). I like it's ease of use, for editing. I don't do sound editing in it, I don't do fx in it, just cut. I use an HD100 camera and Cineform. I had many problems 3 years ago using this setup. PPro had problems, Cimeform had problems, but now it works pretty darn good for the short form stuff I do. I have not tried a long form HD project yet. (max 45 minutes DV in 6.5, no huge problems)

As for FCP, I use it to cut DV on my old iBook G4. Again, I'm not editing audio or doing fx, just cutting. To be blunt, I can't really tell the difference other than I'm cutting on a 22 monitor on my PC and a 15 laptop screen. Sure stuff is called differnent things and are placed in different places, but for EDITING they are pretty much the same. I have not tried to cut HD in my iBook, it would kill it for sure.

So if your looking to upgrade from vegas and use a Mac, you have options. If your on a PC PPro cs3 will do the job. Both are good.
Cheers,
Jon

PS tried Avid for a while, boy is that program lame! .... lol

Premiere CS3 is good and its a hell of a lot better than 6.5!

I do not think I will ever get a Mac until those prices come down. PC's are a lot cheaper and give you the same performance. So for FCP I have no say.

AVID is a unique program and its really user friendly for quick edits. TV stations use that a lot.

Premiere Pro does everything I could ask for it, and PC's are loads cheaper than apples. Plugin support for PP is huge for me.

If you need "integration" jump back to Ppro CS3. Ppro CS3 Integration with other Adobe products is second to none.
