MovieMaker Mag Top 50 Film Websites...didn't include DVXuser?

I was really surprised to see that the latest issue of Movie Maker Magazine didn't include DVXuser in its Top 50 best websites for filmmakers. Considering that I have found DVXuser to be the best resource for information, advice and news for an indie filmmaker, I can only wonder why it didn't even make the magazine's top 50. Some old rivalry? I think both DVXuser and Movie Maker had early roots in Vancouver. Hm.

Maybe it just goes without saying that this is the best filmmaking resource on the planet... so they didn't even bother making the rest of the list look bad?

I'm curious to know what sites "they consider" to be more beneficial to filmmakers than DVXuser?

FreeMoneyForYourFilm.com
20dollarHVX.com
WhatsThatClunk.com

Seriously, can you mention some of the sites that were at the bottom of the list?

DVXuser is without a doubt the main reason I went from raw newbie to raw newbie that makes his living this way!

No other site comes close!

As far as a "technical knowledge base" goes, there's no website that even comes close to DVXuser. Add on top of that the level of professionalism and civility that the forum maintains and you've got something really special. There's some forums out there where you're afraid to post anything because you'll get flamed for it. But here even a "NOOB" post is still in good fun.

Oh well, lists don't really mean anything, and are VERY subjective, but I can't understand how they could not have included DVXuser. Something tells me their list contains a lot of websites that help advertise Movie Maker Magazine.

well, that magazine does maintain a forum of their own, so maybe there aren't any forums on the list... maybe their list is made up of "traditional" websites, rather than forums, etc.

Who knows. who cares :)

I think Jason paid them not to mention DVXuser so that he wouldn't have to work harder from people joining from reading the article.

i just sent them a profanity laden email of insult and signed it, brandon rice.

i'm sure they will get the message now (although they may miss out on the irony).

You don't need to advertise a Rolex in order to sell it, same with DVXuser its already surpassed critical mass.

{Just type "Filmmaking forums" in google; DVXuser is ranked 10th place on the first page}

Well we know this is the greatest filmmaking site to ever grace the world, and to be fair I think putting on the list would cause the magazine to spontaineously cumbust in everyone's hands because User is that cool.

Hmm...

DVXuser.com, a site for (dare I say it) DVX users not included in a MovieMaker Mag Top 50 Film Websites?

Surprising? Hardly.

This site is far too specific and focused on Panasonic.
Believe it or not, some people do use other brands of cameras, and I'm not talking about the peripheral inclusion of Canon or Sony here.

The list is on MovieMaker Magazine, not Panasonic Magazine.

A thought.

And yes there are some excellent sites not included on their list.

It's true we started off DVX Panasonic specific ...

But since then ? We have 3 sub forums for the DVX, HVX and the HPX.

The SONY EX cam has it's own forum and Canon still maintains a presence.

Not to turn this into some kind of flame war, but here's just one of many reasons why your statement doesn't hold water. I'm responding to your statement, not the fact that we should/shouldn't be included on some silly list. I could care less about that.

Anyways.... DVXFest. Any camera and anyone is allowed to participate in the fest. It's free, everyone gets their film watched if they actually made the film for the fest, and gets their film responded to by their peers. The prizes are generally very kick ass. So much so, that you'd be hard pressed to find many "traditional" fests that have entry fees and other expenses involved that even come close to the prize pools that we generally offer here.

So, in otherwords, for no charge to anyone, we offer all of that, and we encourage anyone and everyone with a camera to get off their ass and make a movie... rather than sitting around pontificating about whether or not we should be on some list, or if we are too centric towards one camera or another.

The site has its roots. There's no denying that, but we have grown into so much more, and there is a wealth of information and learning opportunity here, and chances to meet, network and collaborate with other members on projects for fun and for pay for anyone who wants to take advantage, and it that doesn't have a dang thing to do with one specific camera, piece of equipment, etc. or another.

That is one reason of many I could name, but I don't wish to encourage a silly argument.

I will respectfully disagree with you and say that I believe you quite misguided about just what exactly this site is, if you honestly believe what you posted and aren't just trying to stir the pot.

Gotta throw in with Jason and Hudson here. I can't remember the last time I came to this site about something to do with a panny camera. I come for audio, FCP, directing, the marketplace...but not about a camera. Of my thousands of posts I would guess about a dozen or so are directly tied to a DVX or HVX question (of course at least a thousand are inane or obscure observations that have nothing to do with anything at all  ).

I've been coming to, and recommending this site for almost four years because it is (IMHO) the absolute best online resource for the whole package.
