How to match Bogen sticks to newer heads?

HI.
I have the Bogen 3001 sticks. A little older but in excellent condition. Where can I go to get specs on which heads will fit this tripod? I am looking at the 501HDV & 503HDV at the moment

I'm new to this forum and trying to get setup with an Canon XH-A1 setup. Just doing y homework right now and would like to order everything at once.

Can I use this Bogen 3001 set of legs with either the 501HDV or 503HDV head?

Get any head without a built in bowl and you should be golden. The 501/503HDV just attaches to the screw on the leg.

Thanks for your reply HUV but I can't hardly go out and spend several hundred dollars relying on vague information such as this. I guess I'm looking for someone with experience on this setup or, knows how to get the specs on them.

Also I have know idea what the term "BOWL" refers to. Guess I have a lot to learn on here.

The majority of tripods are made to attach to a standard 3/8'' screw on the tripod, for example the 3001. More expensive heads have a built in 75mm or 100mm ball that goes into tripod sticks which has the compatible bowl; this is for leveling purposes. Any head you buy will work with the 3001 unless it specifically notes that the bowl is built in.

There is a round plate on the top of this tripod (60mm across) which has has raised shoulders on the inside of the circle part of it which looke kinda like a star pattern that match up to the tripod head. You are right in that, there is a 3/8 inch bold there for attaching the head then three set-screws in the mentioned plate part that keeps it from coming loose. Do all Bogen tripod heads with-out the "bowl" have this 60mm place attachment that will align up to this. Or, is what I am describing here the "bowel" you are referring to?

Do either the 501HDV (or) the 503HDV head have this "bowl" you are talking about that you know of?

With that particular stick, it comes with the 75mm bowl adapter. I should know, I've been using that exact combo as a second tripod for weeks. The adapter just attaches on to the 3/8'' screw so any head can be made to work with a bowl. But if you just purchase the head itself, it won't come with it. Without a compatible stick, it's the bowl adapter is useless anyway.
 
OK I think I'm getting it now lol... thanks. One more thing. I been looking at these combos on J&R and B&H. Both are running a special in which there is a rebate. J&R also throws in FREE shipping but the tripod they have paired up with the 503 head is 351MVB2 and NOT the 351MVB2K which is what B&H has matched up with it.

SO is there a difference in the two tripods?

It's the same tripod, if you check B&H "What's Included" section it says that the tripod is 351MVB2. Not sure why they add a K. No difference that I can see.
