Best way to monitor HD from FCP

I just bought a new Sony LMD2030W HD production monitor, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to hook it up to my G5.

I'm currently looking at the BlackmagicDesign Intensity Pro card. Is this what I need? Anybody here use this?

I'm mostly editing in a DVCPro HD timeline.

Check into the AJA Kona LHe. It has DVCPro HD hardware acceleration built into the card. I use one at work and it has run flawlessly for me. Allows for component in/out and HD SDI in/out.

Thanks for the recommendations. I think the Kona and the MXO have too many bells and whistles for me. I don't really have a need for inputs... just a good quality output. I want to make sure the HDMI out on the Intensity is going to give me what I need.

You know... the link I gave you was the MXO2... I suggest the MXO.

Remember too... this will do REAL TIME downscaling. Someting the Intensity won't. Where Intensity allows for HDMI capture, MXO is the monitoring solution of choice. SDI w/ audio... yes, DVI not HDMI but I really think you should look again.

The Intesity or Intensity Pro card will work fine for your needs.
The Pro card will give you SD analog outputs if you want to also monitor your video in SD space. BTW you can monitor both SD and HDMI (digital) output at the same time to different monitors.

The Sony monitor is ok for your needs, but keep in mind that the aspect ratio on it is 16:10 not 16:9 and it's not true 1920 x 1280 resolution. SO you will get some scaling artifacts most likely during preview.

but if this is mainly for color correction then it should easily fit your needs.

While the Intesnity doesn't do realtime scaling, it does have dual video/audio capture and preview via HDMI.
Besides video/audio preview via HDMI, the Pro offers video/audio via component cables as well. But if your monitor has HDMI and audio capability, then no need for extra cables.

What the MXO does great over the Intensity is have it's own Blue Gun calibrating solution. Even for monitors that don't have Blue gun ability. Like a Dell 2408 or Apple Cinema display monitor.

Hmmm.... I'm having a hard time making up my mind on this.

It's starting to look like the Intensity Pro will give me the best bang for my buck. It gives me HDMI out, which out of all of my monitor inputs, is probably the best (It doesn't have SDI). It's also under $400, which doesn't hurt.

I'm looking at that too. I was planning on getting that and a 720P or 1080P LCD from Costco. Not sure which way to jump.
