Miracle At St. Anna - A Spike Lee Joint?

Personally, while I don't always agree with some of his political views, I think Spike has always been a great director. He's made a lot of important films but I think his talent has often been mired by people's knee-jerk reactions to the content of his movies and the assumption that his work is based on hate. Pro-Black? Yes. Racist? No. But I'm not trying to start ranting to you guys.

I think this movie will be another step for him to becoming a more widely accepted filmmaker and I'm happy because I think he's very talented. It looks good and I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Sort of disagree. Spike is good when he gets out of the way. Too often though he resorts to dumb overly stylistic crap like his floating dolly walk. His best directing for me is in the second half of Malcolm X, once Malcolm gets sent to jail, because he just let the story start telling itself without any "look ma, I'm directing" crap...This trailer does look good, though. I'll probably see it.

True. I guess saying somebody has always been a great director is not a wise thing to say. Maybe I should say that he's a director that I try to keep on my radar.

That one looks pretty good. I did not like all of his films but he is great director. It took me years to get used to the "floating dolly walk". Inside Man was good turn for him.

nice........................i'll be going to check this out. i have a family member that is one of the main soldiers. don't really know him though. i'll be checking this out. i like how i can't rell it's a spike lee movie based on the trailer. like someone mentioned above, he seems to have stepped out of the way of this film and let it tell itself (hopefully).

This film does look good; the battle sequences aren't doing anything stellar in my eyes as I can tell from a trailer.

I think Spike is a very talented filmmaker but no where near one of the great ones working today. Above average skills.

You should of never backed from your original statement, I think he is a great director, very unique.

Looks pretty cool. Interesting story.

The statue head is quite large and would be very heavy in fact. To have it casually strung at your hip bouncing back and forth would be extremely uncomfortable. But I guess we wouldn't see it then. :)

Edit: For instance, this 15 inch bust weighs 75 pounds! Tie that to your belt and run around. :D

Movie looks good though.

Well, in retrospect what I said at first was a bit of an absolute which I try to steer clear of. In all honesty, I haven't seen all of his work...maybe like 85% of it and while there has been some of his films that I've liked more than others, I like it all to some degree.

That being said I do feel that he is a great director but who can say anybody has always been great at what they do? I guess he just averages out to great. He is in my list of top directors.
