Rendered footage pixeleted

Hi all

I've looked around other threads that deal with the same issue, but couldn't find anything to correspond directly to my problem.

I needed to burn a DVD of my film. I rendered the footage out to MPEG2 using the DVD Architect NTSC stream.

When I play it in Windows Media Player in the small window it looks fine, but when I enlarge it to full screen it gets totally pixeleted.

I haven't used DVD Architect yet. This is just a test burn.

Any ideas on what I did wrong?

I have Vegas 8.0. The footage is 11 minutes long in SD.

Thank you.

How big are you making it when you go to full screen? A computer screen is going to be much higher-resolution than the MPEG-2 is, so of course blowing up the SD footage to fill the screen is going to reveal artifacts.

Just play it at 100% size, not blown up to full screen, and see if it's OK.

Okay, it's strange. I play it in WMP in full size and it looks fine. But when I go to the little box at the bottom right and make the WMP controls disappear, -meaning now I have only the movie on the screen - I get the artifacts, although the video is the same size!

One more strangeness: The DVD Architect template, as far as I understand, isn't supposed to do a lot of recompression, but my video file's size is only 473 MB on 4.7 GB disk... so it's heavily compressed... is this like it's supposed to be?

I have the same problem...Just rendered a 20gb avi to DVD Arch mpeg2, compressed the file to 4.2gb. I see the artifacts in play back?????

MPEG-2 is VERY compressed. You can raise the quality by upping the bitrate, but you don't want to go too much higher than 8000 -- and, of course, the file size will be bigger, so the longer the program, the more likely it is you'll need a dual-layer disc.
