Think OF it as an investment to the arts.

That guy is awesome. He actually helped me get some money for a few of my films as well.
 
Jack told me about that guy a few years back and he actually funded my first feature, it was a great time.

Do you have a great feature script to which you own outright or have at least a three year option on, a business plan which shows the return amount and investor first position? or at least a registered canadian film tax credit number?

Did you have an entertainment lawyer put a production company together and prepare an investment package?

indeed- the script is secure right under my bed!

However- If someone has a business plan template or an example of one I would appreciates a copy because I have no idea how to put a plan together..

Make sure you register your script with the WGA! If your not a member it will still only cost you $20 bucks to do that. They are at wga.org

Setting up your production company and putting your investment package which will have an offering memorandum will cost usually from 2-4k.

Business Plan - There are lots examples online. Google them. A plan for a movie varies somewhat from one to start up a bowling alley but most of the format is the same.

Executive Summary - (Also known as the 30 second elevator pitch - You enter an elevator and bump into the investor of your dreams. You have 30 seconds of their undivided attention to make your investment pitch. Go!)

5 Points:

1. What is the concept?
2. How much do you need?
3. What is the return on investment?
4. When can I expect to see that return?
5. What the hell makes you think your the one that can pull this off?

Management Team

Who is running the company and what is their background. Having Steven Spielberg on the board of a new film company would give an investor a lot of confidence vs. Melvin Schmidlapp.

Marketing Plan

Your plan for how you will get your film into the market. Include a list of films which had little investment but big returns. ie. My Big Fat Greek Wedding had a budget of just over a million and so far has grossed over $400 million. Discuss the festival route, film markets and how the world is broken up into regions for film distribution.

Operational Plan

How everything will be carried out


Financial Plan

Put in your budget including the film's topsheet and show all the above and below the line costs.

Appendices

Movie related stuff about your production. Photos of you on film sets looking like your doing something etc.
 
And of course it would help if you can scrape together some money to shoot a spec trailer or a short film version of the feature. This will show the investor that you have the skill to deliver the goods.
