oh you got it, besides the dirtiness how are you liking the image?

To clean it you run it under water, gently soaping it with your finger. Then you quickly dry it using one of those air sqeezer thingy's. you can use compressed air but you have to really be careful no to get freeze spray on it.

here's a video on how to clean it.. you may need to log onto cinevate to view it: http://www.cinevate.com/images/manuals/cleaning.mov

I havent even had time to enjoy it. The thing came with a little smudge on it. I didnt even drop it or anything. And i handled correctly, even wore rubber gloves. I ve gone through the process of cleaning it but its still there. I am going to have to call them to replace it.

What does the smudge look like? It's possible it's a stain from alcohol or soapy water that wasn't dried quickly enough, although I'm surprised you couldn't get rid of it when you cleaned it.

And you really don't need to wear rubber gloves. I was really nervous the first time I opened the Brevis at all, although part of it was that I couldn't get the carbon fiber tube out of the ring. I took all 4 set screws out and couldn't get it out like I thought. I got really nervous, being afraid to pull too hard or to squeeze. Finally it came apart. But after that first time you realize it's not as delicate as you might be afraid. I'd wash the element again and give a little finger-scrub to that stain and see if it comes out. If it really doesn't, then you should contact Dennis.

No matter how you do it, I think these little condoms for your fingers are an absolute must.

dust

dust

Hi
Sorry, if I am writing to an inappropriate section. I have a CF-L lens for my brevis adapter and I want to ask how you are cleaning it if there is a stain on it and if there is dust on it. I cleaned it very gently but the dust always comes again, before I put it to the adapter.

I constantly use a blower. blower it dry, before you place it back on, after you secure in place, before you slide the tube back on. Oh yeah, blow the insides and all sides of the tube thoroughly. Make sure the edges of the carbon fiber tubes are clean of stray fibers.. etc...

If all else fails, then check to see if those are actually dust particles on the element and not actual imperfections like air bubbles. Use a magnifying glass or jewelers scope to examine it.

Static charge is your number one enemy, particularly in these climes where it's -20C and super dry. The element will tend to be positively charged, and the dust negative. You can make yourself a very simple clean environment by gaff taping a full size furnace filter to the front of a floor fan. Just put it on your work table and keep it running while you're cleaning.

The same setup works very well for cleaning your lenses, and anything else where dust is an issue. In our forum owner's section I've posted a compilation of helpful information based on what we've found (and what owner's have found effective) in terms of keeping things clean. There is a clip again in our owner's forum section that demonstrated how to wash the elements. The one caveat here is that CFX and CFXL should never be immersed in water!
