I use the Storms 2975 case and it's more than enough to fit my fully assembled rig. In fact, it might be over kill. The 2950 case would work much better.
Well, I don't have an 35mm adapter (yet), however my camera does have rails, FF, and mattebox and stays assembled in this Hardigg case. Millitary surplus...got it on ebay for about $40, if I remember correctly.
I'm sure there's room in there for a camera with an adapter attached. (last pic is from the ebay auction):
Is that pluck-n-pull foam or somethin' else? It'd be nice to not have to deal with flismy pluck n'pull stuff and perhaps just knife out a stack of foam blocks.
Sorry Kholi, I don't have a still camera available and my equipments are scattered all over the place. I would feel pretty safe shaking the case around though. I do it on a regular basis when dragging the case, which is the only way I can possibly transport it since the whole thing weights about 50lbs and is bulky as hell.
Huy -- Excellent. I guess it's time grab one o'these big cases and hope I can fit it in the back of my [tiny] vehicle. u_u; Four Door Civic might be in my near future.
It came with 3 of them and I happened to have a few more. I did notice a few companies that sold foam online. You had to buy it in packs, though and If I remember correctly, the least expensive pack of 6, 3" foam sheets 35"x35" was $70.
my 2 bits......
16x9's large bag.
Its run n gun and holds my HVX, Lex, FF and extra long Cavision rails. The back opens and has 2 levels of storage for my 4 Zeiss primes.
also, I'll throw it in the bag when I'm not shooting, something I never did with a Pelican.
Kholi - after asking many of my questions it is now my turn to answer your question -
Here is my 2 cents worth - This is only if you are traveling from state to state or country;
I use the Pelican 1550 for the Dvx100 and will be using the 1600 for the HVX200A - two reasons-
1. I can carry it on the plane with me. like to keep my gear close by.
2. I can use the lid of the pelican case to put my laptop and extended harddrive on when I'm out in the field shooting. It gives the laptop something to sit on that is clean and stable so I can download footage.
Or course it will depend on how much gear you are traveling with.
I had a 1600 and I didn't get to use it much but it was a nice case. I think it'd do well depending on how much gear you're traveling with as you stated. Unfortunately the amount that I have really does call for one of those larger cases (sadly).
Great deals on Hardigg Stormcases, but having to spend money isn't fun.
You probably can't get any more 'run and gun' than this. I even find myself holding the rig like a gun The HV20 is permanently attached to the SG Pro (not the other way around). With the dust and vignetting free images I've been getting, there's no way I'll be pulling it apart anytime soon! The whole rig with a lens attached is just over 2kg. So it's a similar weight to an XHA1 or HVX200 on their own, and lighter than an EX1 too. I've also performed the 'flip hack' to the HV20 so I can flip the LCD with the switch on top.
Also, the focus and zoom controls on the HV20 are locked in place with tape. This means I can easily switch on the HV20, switch on the SG Pro and start shooting immediately without having to make any adjustments. It's brilliant!
Anyway, the backpack is just my old Targus laptop backpack. The HV20 SG Pro rig is strapped into the padded laptop area. The lenses fit in a padded and lined pouch on the outside. I'm too cheap to buy a proper bag and don't shoot professionally anyway, so it's nice solution that enables me to take the rig pretty much anywhere without any fuss.
Sweet little setup Glenn. Wish that I had a setup that small and portable. My HVX-Letus is huge and weighs almost 18lbs. I have to bring this massive Storm IM2975 everywhere with it, its a PITA.
