SGPro EX1 Achromat Fix with the HVX. Stills and Review.

I had the opportunity to use the EX1 first hand in the field on a production for the Ladd family under David Ladd (Producer of Hart's War, ect). The film exclusively used the SGPro. While I get permission to post a couple of screens, here is a pair of before/after test stills.

On a side note, I might add that the Ladds are an absolute pleasure to work with. David was a real gentleman while shooting and freely offered great advice on set.

Both screens are F5.6 on lens and F2.8 on Camera. Lens is 50mm Carl Zeiss ZF.
Notice the corners primarily. This is a somewhat quick setup keep in mind. Overall the framing is pretty much the same. I kept the camera locked down and simply slid the unit off enough with the lens stilled mounted and installed the new achromat. The installation is basically just unscrew the old one, then place the glass into the retainer ring and while holding the flip with the gate opening facing down, start to screw the retainer ring into it. Otherwise the loose achromat glass can slip around and get scratched.

Edit: I can't figure out how to upload pictures. I thought there was an upload button but its not in the edit window. I also tried html text and that didn't work with adding the line. Until then I'll just post a link to photobucket.

The package contains the achromat glass, a retainer ring, and a new condenser with 3 screws/wrench:

Still don't see it.

EDIT: I put the files up now. 2nd one is of the new achromat. Right click and save as to do an easier side by side.

Avenger,
Thanks for posting. Do you have any stills or at least some remarks about how it looked with the 35mm lens wide open? At 5.6 even the old one was almost acceptable. The important information is always what's it look like wide open.

Also wondering why you cut off the chart so much. What I always want to see is the corner information, and the numbers for lines of resolution are only accurate with the full chart framed.

These were somewhat preliminary results I tossed together in the field. Lighting and space prohibited the full chart accurately in both tests. Let me see what I have wide open. I voice slated everything but the audio is cut from the transfer for some reason when the P2 dumper tossed it in the folder.

The current problem is my limited camera availability. I can post some SD stills from a DVX or HVX tape but I don't have any free P2 cards right now as everything is in use. I guess an HVX would be a good choice to at least see how it is working with that particular lens as a whole. The results are likely more dramatic in HD though. I can get it setup though if thats what you're interested in.
