"vintage" sennheiser MKH 416?

This isn't an ad for an eBay listing but a question about one, this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/SENNHEISER-MKH-...VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247

I'm looking everywhere for a great deal on an MKH416 and this couldn't help but catch my eye. What's the deal? Is this really an antique 416? How long have they been making these? Should I be wary of the $600 price tag? Is it really only safe to go with a newer version of Sennheiser stuff? What's the dilly?

P.S. I may be screwing myself by posting this if the mike turns out to be a gem. Please don't anyone up and steal it from me on eBay. :P

I can't speak to the condition but the age of the mic should not be a problem. The connector is an older German standard but with the adaptor is not a problem. The price is in line with what used 416 start at. On average it would probably go for around $700 to $800. If you can wait I won't bid over that; if you need quicker then I would go as high as $900.

Of course that all depends on the condition of the mic and ebay comes with that risk.

Cheers

the cheapest price in europe for 416 is about 720 euro , shipping around 80 to usa .
the regular price stand for around 850 euro
now if you see th mkh in usa for 1100 us$ -grab it as when the stock would be finish you probably would see 1.6 k tag .

the last i sold about month ago went for 900.
about t power and tuchel connector , the mic 20 yers old if not more , usially these mics work very hard and may be noisy or dameged , i will only buy one if it still price( then if you have bad one about 200-300 bring it for as new conditionat sennheiser) or only if i know the seller .

Just as a reference point for you - I got a t-powered version of the same mic on ebay from someone in Germany for $450 + about $20 for shipping. I immediately sent it to Sennheiser USA for a check up and that cost another $50 or so.

The deals are there - and mine sounds perfect. While I certainly would never buy a used ME66 (well, I wouldn't even buy a new ME66), the 416 is a workhorse. But, as with everything on ebay, YMMV.

I purchased a 416T w/power supply on eBay for $420...it was MINT, well packed & shipped FAST! Excellent mic.

The deals are out there, just keep watching and pounce when the right one comes along.

A vintage 416 is a nice find. I got lucky and got an 805 off ebay for 350.00 a few years ago.

What you need to remember is, what is the microphone worth to you?
