Remote follow focus for £150/$300

Im sure I could build it, but then it would cost more than the £300 that im selling it for. This is a low cost solution for the indie film maker, im not too keen on adding lots off gadgets, I dont want it to end up as the sort of thing buzz lightyear keeps in his chest cavity. All the new stuff adds to the cost after all ;-)

Looks good Hoarp. I'm looking forward to some video of the FF mount.

Good to hear you're keeping to what you initially set out to do. I think that at the price point there certainly is a demand.

Cheers

Well since the first post the functions and design has changed a bit. Its changed from wired to wireless, and it now has programmable stops. These things take time to engineer and im sorting it out now. I printed the prototype boards a few days ago and we should have a working radio prototype within the week.

I want to take the time to develop it so I can test it out, check its up to the job and iron out any problems before people pay their hard earned cash for it.

Understandable. But hurryyyy. I have my segway & steadicam setup ready, Just waiting for RFF.

Oo segway, ive always wanted to try that. Should get the electronics working this week.

Hi Hoarp, I think your follow focus sounds great, but I'm amazed that you have gone from wired to wireless so quikly. Are you an electronics engineer, or is someone doing your designs??

Im not an electronics engineer i just have a good understanding of electronics and I taught myself how do do the wireless part of the system. It wasn't as much work as I was first expecting and I have gone surface mount so I can fit more inside the case now.

That's great hoarp, can I ask what modulation system you are using, and the Frequency your working on?

Do you think you could build a version that has a built in record button? Then theres no need for a dedicated zoom control (because the zoom functions most likely wont be used if you are using a 35mm adapter)

Well I could if all cameras used the same LANC protocol. It seems that the hvx and the sony cameras use different lanc systems so it would be quite hard to work out. If these cameras were like the Red it would be much easier. on the red there is a lemo plug and you just short the two pins and it sets it to record. I could easily put a relay inside the receiver to do this. Unfortunatly the focus unit couldn't give a tally light to the focus puller, as that would mean having a transmitter in the receiver and a receiver in the transmitter, which would get quite expensive and complicated.

Maybe V2 can have a record button...

I like the look of your green purple, when can I put my 10 percent deposit of 50c down?
