Watch This Space... Sound DVD ANNOUNCED!

one quick note though, the segment on the inverse square law is confusing me a bit, shouldn't it state that when you half the distance from subject that you are ultimately amplifying the signal by (4) not by (2) as stated in the DVD?
You're right, as it refers to light. But in sound it's different, because we're dealing with two different concepts: amplitude, vs. power. As you cut the distance in half, the power increases by 4x but the amplitude (the volume) doubles. The amplitude (in pressure, or velocity) is basically related to the square root of the power. 4x the power, square root of 4x = 2, so 2x as much volume/amplitude).

We went with a simpler explanation because hey, math doesn't matter, what matters is how loud the signal is. And in that case, half the distance = twice the volume.

Exactly! :) Trust us, on the disc it's explained incredibly easily, and it makes all the difference in the world in understanding how to control background noise and get cleaner dialogue recording.

Jack, that is perhaps the single greatest picture ever attached to a post, with the possible exception of Mikko's "noob" picture.

I am going to get all the DVD's and throw out all my movies...
she might complain but the wife will learn to love them :D

I ordered this last week. Haven't had a chance to watch yet but if it is anything like the Bootcamp DVDs than this will be great.

Any plans to make a lighting DVD?

A lighting disc would be an obvious follow-up. Hmmm...

Nothing new to announce at this moment though regarding any of the numerous announcements. I'm thinking I'll start a new thread when the next new announcement is about ready to be made. :)

Barry, despite and apart the PRO label more related to, I think you're forgetting the reduser.net community, as well.

E. :-)
