Best way to CC in post, to resolve a debate

Would it make a difference to the outputted file,if i say colour corrected in Avid as-posed to Premiere, using the exactly the same footage?

My Uni Lecturer swears to me that a file colour corrected in Avid will look better compared to a Premiere, he claims the codecs are better! is this true?

Could they both be outputted as DV-AVi or does Avid export as DNxHD?

Thanks

Color correction is partly the codec, so if you out put to the same codec say h264 and they look different then your color correction parameters are different.
If you do a simply curves color correction to crush your blacks and the curves number is identical your footage should look the same.
If you are doing tone, gamma and color change, you would have to know exactly the parameters to duplicate them.

Does the DNxHD codec have any advantages over DV avi?

Is the DNxHD codec a shooting codec i.e compression a camera use for footage?

Cheers

DNxHD is the codec Avid uses for working with compressed HD footage. Unlike the acquisition formats DV, HDV, DVCPRO, etc., the DNxHD codec is only used in post production. The "DV" codec is standard def (720 x 480). Comparing a HD codec to a SD codec doesn't work. Regarding which NLE is better for color correcting I think the difference between the Premiere (CS3) and Avid (MC) would be negligible. This is assuming that both systems are working with uncompressed SD footage.

The comparison Avid vs. Premiere comparison is a little confusing. Avid's top tier Nitris systems, Symphony and DS, have CC toolsets/hardware that are far superior to Premiere's CC tools. I think it's safe to assume that your lecturer was talking about Avid Composer or Avid Xpress Pro (pretty much the same app).

The short answer is that once you remove the codec from the equation both systems handle color correction very well. No clear cut winner.
