Big News for New England

If it were me living in NE, I would not worry too much about this. the corp video and day to day video business will likely remain unchanged.

By way of comparison, Wisconsin recently passed legislation making it more financially advantageous for major motion pictures to film in this state. At first, I was a good bit excited about it, if only because WI is such an ignored, backwards, flyover state, here they were finally doing something that was actually modern and relevant. But in looking at the details, the numbers are so big, to even qualify for any of the incentives, that almost none of the creatives in the state will benefit. Hotels, restaurants etc. will benefit but that is more like tourism. No one I know has gotten work of any sort out of this new legislation. But Johnny Depp is in Madison filming a major motion picture. I talked to a cop directing traffic near the set, who was getting overtime pay for doing so. He's benefiting from the new laws. But none of my camera operating friends are involved. Hope it changes but my hopes are not up. I think you will find likewise.

State incentives come and go. You have to have a viable business during those economic cycles where there is no business - regardless of whether incentives exist at that moment in time.

What you cannot easily wrest from Los Angeles is the post-production business - which begins with the labs. Naturally, this too has been changing with the ongoing advances in digital post.
