PS : My Burn equipment is inside the G5.
How to set up DVD Studio when I use an External Pioneer Burn ?

Be sure to have your external drive selected as DVDSP defaults to your internal.

Be sure you are using the proper recording media (DVD-R) format.

Click on Build/Format, when the dialogue box opens, you should go to the bottom where it reads 'Destination'. Select the correct output device. (your external burner)

I've had this happen even with my internal burner that came with my Mac, regardless of the quality of the media. I found my best workaround was to build the project and then format to an .img file in separate steps. Then use the Restore feature in Disk Utility to burn to a DVD at whatever speed I desired. Choosing anything by "Maximum Possible" always works. Apparently DVDSP automatically burns as fast as possible, which doesn't always create a good burn.

Many people have had similar problems with this as I did also. After going crazy trying to find the problem I called and talked to a friend that runs a duplication shop that burns 10.000 to 20,000 disks a day and he explained that most of the newer disks that are out are using a newer format on the disk. I went and bought a new pioneer burner for $40 bucks and it solved all of my problems until recently. I have had a bad batch of dual layer disks. I'm still using the pioneer 116 and now I think their up to the 121. They are suppose to have a new firm ware update out to fix the problem with the burners but haven't got to it yet. One of my buddies did the upgrade and it fixed his problem with dual layer disks. It had the same problem wether using toast or mac or DVDSP software. I'll be upgrading my 116 this week. I've been waiting for blueray to get cheap enough to get one.

Good luck.

I agree with flmmkr. Advanced burn to HDD and then burning the .img seems to be the best way to go. When you burn it choose DVD-R's and a slower speed for maximum compatibility and success.
