Watch This Space... Sound DVD ANNOUNCED!

I'll order one of those [the pro audio instruction], probably next year.

And BTW, when can we expect the "RED Book" and\or "Scarlet Book" + DVDs by Mr. Green and team? :)

Long Live Silent Movies! Oh wait, wrong thread...

No really, if this DVD is anything like the DVX100 DVD, then it should be great.

This disc isn't about narration or commercial voiceovers or news or anything like that. It's designed for what so many of our members do: narrative filmmaking.

Scarlet, definitely. But that's at least a year away, there has to BE a Scarlet before I can get to work on the book & DVD for it!

Thanks Barry, David and Matt for this.

7. The basics of creating an effective audio edit
8. And much, much more!
Would this DVD include how to get a good final sound mix for your productions? Like JDS usually has in his?

Thx

Well, it's not a course in sound design. :) It's the basics of dealing with the audio you record -- smoothing out differences, dealing with some common problems, an overview of some NLE tools, using room tone, adding ambience, and even some interesting tricks to help you on set. It should provide a solid base for getting a good soundtrack, but it's not a walk through Skywalker Sound. :)

In the movie a Christmas story, Ralphie is listening to the radio and excited to find out the secret message on his decoder ring. When he learns that it says "Drink more Oveltine" he says A crummy commercial.

Just skimmed over the DVD and I can already tell that it will be very useful addition to any library. Lots of practical, hands-on information along with audio examples delivered in a very entertaining package. It's the only one I've found so far which really spends some decent time teaching technique. Looking forward to thoroughly watching it this evening...

No way! I just got my copy of "Sound." That was wicked fast!

I don't have time to watch it today but I did look at the back. I love Matt's "garrr" facial expression.

Agh! I popped in the DVD just to take a quick look and got sucked in for 10 minutes before I was able to break myself free.

Great DVD so far guys. Really, really great. Now I need to finish up my homework so I can watch and enjoy this DVD later.

Good stuff guys, looks like I have to find some serious time this week to watch the whole thing.

one quick note though, the segment on the inverse square law is confusing me a bit, shouldn't it state that when you half the distance from subject that you are ultimately amplifying the signal by (4) not by (2) as stated in the DVD?

In perfect laboratory conditions, yes, that would be the formulaic result, but in practice, it doesn't quite work that way. We're trying to teach from the perspective of what you'll actually end up with most of the time. But hey, if you get an even better signal, then bully.

I got my DVD in the mail today - and I have to say so far this thing is great.
Nice breakdowns, clear explanations with very good examples.

I really like the way you guys tried to illustrate audio issues with visual analogies.
It really helps to drive the point home in a way that I think everyone will be able to understand immediately and clearly - seeing as the biggest issue is that most of us concentrate much more on visual concerns than audio concerns.

I've only watched a fraction of the disc so far - but from what I've seen I can already see that much like the 'bootcamp' DVDs, this isn't going to be the kind of tutorial I watch once and put on the shelf, but the kind of reference and refresher resource that I'll go back to again and again.

Great work.

I got mine today. I haven't had a chance to watch it yet but if it's anything like the HVX DVD's then I know I'll love it. :)
