Movietube JR - New 35 Adapter from Kinomatik

What amazed me is that, according to AbelCine, one needs only to set the video camera focus to infinity, and the MovieTube will take care of the rest.

Does anyone know how it can be done this way? I am very curious.

Trying to understand the community ...

Few days ago I was commenting on the Letus ultimate thread that the 4500$ plus 4500$ for the B4 relay along with a HPX500 is equivalent to a RED camera... and almost everyone jumped on me by saying that 4500$ is nothing compared to what you get???

Now Movie tube JR cames out and everyone says that is extremely expensive on the same pricing???

Is like same people here have an agenda like i.e. Letus is the best and all the rest is radish and expensive... I'm not against anyone, but to a third person, it sounds like that. In one thread the 4.5K is OK and on the other is the worst thing that ever happen...

None says that all the problems that we have, is related solely to ground glass, and the only upgradeable adapter is Brevis, so a new screen on Brevis can fix everything that is a problem today...

Mechanically the vibration thats on Brevis is OK it doesn't make an arc bigger than 0,05mm which is not a problem at all. It just the wide lens that has a problem due to the angle the
rays of light have, so if you test i.e. the Letus ultimate with a lens that happens to have large exit pupil and its 85mm focal their is a good chance to have very good edge to edge sharpness...

But again the white area glow is not fixed for instance...

I thing that a new ground glass to a host adapter like Brevis can be more effective than anything else. My own experiments has shown exactly that.

I don't thing that we need a new god of DoF adapters like the Lee brothers (which are very polite and humble), but instead we need technology advancements in ground glass design.

Matt, did you see any footage?
Speaking about ground glass, I am pretty excited about what they will come up with.

The build the adapter some streets down from where I live, I will have a look at it next week.

What I really don't get: Standard mount is Canon EOS EF...

I think your missing the point that the Ultimate is Letus's top dog. It has nothing to do with any bias toward one adapter or another. Its meant to compete with the original Movietube or the Pro 35 optically, but at a 4500 price point. Movietube Jr. is their affordable adapter, while we have great choices in the sub $1500 range, their bargain comes in at over 4k. Personally i'm fine with my Extreme until I can move out of adapter land, i'm tired of updates etc.

This thread is old. The idea of an adapter costing 4500.00 isn't as unattractive as it was just those few months back.

Brevis with a new ground glass wouldn't be the holy grail. It's still vibrating.

The Ultimate had a 17-35mm Nikon strapped to it at [horribly] acclaimed SLR FOV and it looked pretty good to me. I don't think SLR FOV should even exist, but to each it's own.

The Le brothers (one E and very polite and humble) have made advancement in ground glass design. see: letus ultimate.

In my opinion Movie tube adapter is Junior only by name...

The next thing that remains to be seen is a PRO35 (Junior) at 4500$... If you have to compete with a RED package...

Yes its not the holly grail, because its vibrating, but spinners aren't either!

With spinners you cant do an aspheric ground glass i.e.

Ultimate didn't address the white glow effect i.e. (in my opinion its not huge advancement in the edge sharpness either)

Letus Ultimate nor Movie tube, are ground glass, they are adapters...

So on top of the ground glass cost, we have to pay every time all the milling, battery's, prisms, achromat's, mounts, chargers again and again and again...

Thats very good Kholi...

That is what I'm saying all along now. They hear of a new Letus and they are all jumping in their beds for it while they have not seen any footage of it. Honestly, I never liked the footage of the Letus, because it is video with dof, not a single filmlike feeling in it, but hey, that can be just me, and opinions are different everywhere of course, and welcome. But as you describe, this is just being blind and loving something because of the name it has, not of what it is capable.

All of the adapters are ridiculously overpriced. That won't last much longer. I predict a year from now the Cinevates anb Redrocks (let alone the Kinematiks) won't be able to charge $500 for these things. They will be cheaper, smaller and lighter and come from Asia.
that would be nice. the price gouging on adapters is ridiculous.

and as far as the makers of Brevis, and the other lower priced adapters. those saying that they are overpriced should attempt what they have. the amount of time and money they invested into figuring how to make these things work was probably immense. and it's not like they have factories pumping these things out by the second. the demand/production volume isn't there to have a lower price. they're putting them together by hand at home.
I'm sure there is a fair amount of research but not nearly as much as you think. There is absolutely no reason an adapter should cost as much as a sophiticated camera system. How many people are capable of building their own HVX in the garage?

and it's not like they have factories pumping these things out by the second.
I believe that was the other poster's point. That if they don't adjust their prices to a reasonable level someone with a factory will.

Now the Movietube Junior, if it's static, sharper and loses little light then it's a contender. I'm all for non-moving parts. But the regular Movietube was a let down: soft, vignetted, incapabable of 5.6 or above, and lost a good 2 1/2 stops. My LEX blows it away in every respect. What I find odd is that the Junior would have to outperform the senior to be marketable in anyway. How would Mtube justify something for 12 G that performs worse than a 5G product. If the Junior doesn't outperform the Senior I don't see it's worth anything. There's a reason you never see Mtube on many sets and PS all over the place.

The best aspect of Mtube is its build. Unbelievable - as if Arri built it. Hopefully they solved the light loss, low stops, softness and vignetting.

Concerning price, 4500.00 seems OK. Not great. Can't compare it to a "sophisticated" camera system as adaptors are the niche of a niche market so their economies of scale just aren't there. Hell, a 700 dollar Dell has more tech than an HVX, but they sell millions.

Everything I've seen in the Ultimate looks fab and worth it for me. Every low budget producer will be clamouring for it so it'll pay itself off quickly.

Now here's an interesting thought. When Convergent Design rolls out their Flash XDR which can flip an image on ingest, will any of the adaptor makers re-introduce improved, non-flip adaptors. It would make up for the added weight of the XDR Flash. XDR Flash (yeah I know another 5G), I feel if it lives up to specs should be worth it (10 bit UC full raster in the Fall), especially if your doing a lot of composite work.

From my experience the 80% of the cost of the adapter is research, logistics, salaries and the biggest advertising so don't count only the parts add also the rest...

But 4500$ is just too much, the half of it, I can understand it...

When a basic RED costs 23k$ you simple cant sell the MT LT 15K$... they just needed an excuses to drop the price to an affordable level and they call it junior...

Just marketing bulls** :furious3:...

My next camera will have 35mm sensor... I don't know if it will be red, it can also be green... but it will have 35mm sensor! I don't buy nothing for the next year... Varicam is super! OK propably the AVC-intra AJ-D110 which is very sexy...

Just thinking loudly

That's what i'm saying, I don't want to worry about the next adapter. I'm tired of the light loss for one. Not alot of deals on grip trucks and hmi's where I am so 100-200 ASA is really annoying me of late.

Don't you make a 4000.00 B4 relay? How can you possibly justify that and then rag on the Ultimate's 4500.00 price tag?

Might not do much for YOU... Just from Phillip's footage I can already see the 4500.00 is worth it. Keep using a Brevis if you're happy with it. :B

The white area glow is:

If you search and find the video shoot by Philip in down town Vegas with the Letus Ultimate, you will notice where ever there is a big highlight area (like a big guy white shirt) there is a spill on the dark neighboring areas its like a glow effect, its not the common "promist" look, its a glow.

Its being generated by the light energy that falls to the tiny GG and spils the surroundings, normally this is not existing.

I don't thing that their is a GG that fixes that.

I just read up on this convergent design piece. Sounds very promising. Are there any benefits to using it on the HVX? Does it basically offer uncompressed 4:2:2 through HD-SDI captured onto CF cards? Sounds like an HPX with its onboard SDI would work nicely.
