Watch This Space... Sound DVD ANNOUNCED!

Oh so many videos you could produce
More will be coming, of course, and all will involve DVXUsers wherever we possibly can.

But not all the announcements are going to be about videos for sale. There's lots more fun stuff underway at your friendly neighborhood film forum. This was just the FIRST announcement.

DVXUsers hiring DVXUsers, helping DVXUsers, empowering DVXUsers, growing DVXUsers' skills, promoting DVXUsers, partnering with DVXUsers, helping DVXUsers launch or improve their careers... there's lots of stuff on the way. The prior Project Barry GreenLight announcements (JDS's feature film, and Terri Hartley's feature documentary) would also be classified under this same umbrella of the type of announcements I expect to be making throughout 2008.

The first announcement already happened? What page of this thread?

Exciting! I had forgotten about the JDS feature! That'll be good! And excited to see the Isara doc as well. That seems to be going well. Let me know if you need someone to act like they dont have a clue - I am awesome at that! Keep it going guys, DVXUser is becoming quite the enterprise!

NICE! I will be buying this... as soon as I get the money.

Looks like you guys had some fun with green screen too.

fwiw... I'd love to help out on some future project.

Very cool! Most indie filmmakers, definitely include myself in this, could use a helping hand in the audio dept. Plus it looks like there is some humor which makes the medicine go down much easier. By the way, in the page you have a typo.
3. Understanding microphones and how to choos the right one.

Unless you were looking for the Ralp Wiggum spelling intentionally!

Just curious, how does this compare to Rush's sound training vid?
You mean one big 24-hour course? No. We're targeting specific subjects, demystefying them, and empowering viewers to conquer those subjects.

I've never seen Rush's set, I don't know what all he does or what he covers. Our goal is to bring the clearest vision and the clearest knowledge to the audience on whatever specific subject we set out to tackle, especially for those new to the field. Of course, it's not just for beginners... I've really enjoyed some of the prior reviews we've gotten, such as "I learned more in 45 minutes from this DVD than I learned in the last six months of owning the camera." (paraphrased from David Saraceno, talking about our HVX BootCamp DVD).

That's our goal -- to bring that kind of satisfaction, empowerment, knowledge, and understanding to anyone. We bring in the best experts we can find to teach or illustrate those concepts, also relying on my particular teaching style which seems to be very well appreciated whenever I do seminars or speaking engagements.

If some of our products end up competing or overlapping with someone else's, well, I'm sure that'll be unavoidable. But it's our goal to make the clearest, most understandable, most liberating tutorials so that you, the filmmakers or video professionals, can now move forward with complete confidence in whatever task you set out to accomplish.

That was our goal in picking this set to do first. Lots of people think we should have gone with lighting first, but frankly I think more folks need to understand sound moreso than they need help with lighting. We see some fantastic-looking projects that are brought down by not having a quality soundtrack, and it's so simple to greatly improve the sound portion.

Sometimes I look at how much work goes into these films, and it's incredible how much effort is spent, yet the whole thing is brought down by an echo-filled, muffled, noisy soundtrack. We want people to excel in all aspects of what they're trying to do, so we came up with this disc to try to explain the fundamentals and the techniques that will, hopefully, make it all so much clearer and easier to understand and will greatly improve the quality of your soundtracks.

This disc isn't about narration or commercial voiceovers or news or anything like that. It's designed for what so many of our members do: narrative filmmaking.

That was our intent. You'll have to tell us if we succeeded! :)

I **** you not, but I have 80% all of that equipment in that photo my friends... I hope I am not wrong:

_K-Tek Avalon series boom pole (aluminum)
_K-Zep Zeppelin (MUST buy)
_OktabBa hypercardioid MK-012a (M-U-S-T buy)
_SD MixPre (anything SD is the shizzle)
_MDR-7506 Headphones

I do however have the K-Tek K-GPS shock mount instead of the one on the cover, but I've also owned the one on that kit and it is all a good operator needs.

I also have an AT4073A which goes perfectly with the Oktaba... Shotgun outside or in BIG or mute places places and the Hypercardioir for interiors.... the sound characteristics of these mics makes complete sense to use them exactly like this, and it gives your sound an automatic pro feel... so long as your boom operator IS good (the #1 rule!)

What I don't yet have, and am glad I don't :D , is the G-2 transmitter... great for indie, but I'd rather at least go for an old Lectrosonic, you could get them from Coffey and Location Sound for $40... I think Location got rid of them but Coffey might still have it.
You can also get a Sound Devices 4CH recorder for $100 that will B-L-O-W your mind the SD 744T

I agree! I'm getting this ASAP. Thanks a lot everybody who helped out on this!

I ADR'ed 90% (literally) of my first project ever edited (and mixed, and add some design to it with follies and room tone) but since I was using Vegas I did a phenomenal job even though it also was my first ADR ever!
If you've ever seen ACID, then just know that Vegas is ACID + a non linear video editor... it comes packed with excellent quality effects from the get go, and the intuitiveness of the program shines just as hard in the audio side of Vegas

I just tried to order it through Pay-pal but the link quit right at the end. Could not get the paid page to come up.
