ANNOUNCEMENT: DVXUser Monthly - Subscribe Here

Thanks so much for all the enthusiasm about this project so far! It's great to hear that people are interested. (I knew you would be!)

A subscription page is in the works, and in the meantime keep the ideas and comments coming.

While an online or emailed PDF version sounds like a good idea, I believe it isn't what's right for dvxuser Monthly at this time, for a whole lot of reasons I won't list right now. Perhaps it might be an option in the future, but for the foreseeable future expect the publication to be print-only.

Great idea guys, I'm sure the teachers and students I work with would love to read a printable PDF version!

Count me in for both paper and PDF!

Sounds like a great idea. I'm pretty sure you guys already thought of columns to write about. So just to let you know, columns about obtaining distribution would be great... and I know some members on here have had the success of obtaining a distribution deal, would love to hear their story.

And also Some members have gotten into some great film festivals, would love to hear their story of the festival journeys, any tips or advice they would have.

And finally, it would be cool to have A member with expertise in certain field give a monthly tip on something or write a colum on something... Like A member who is an expertise in Cinematography, Sound or Screenplay writing... just couple of examples that would make a good read.... I have plenty more ideas but I'm sure you guys thought of alot of others...

Good luck with this.

Definitely interested! The vast amount of searchable info on dvxuser.com is invaluable -- but having a coherent, focused publication (that I don't have to be in front of the computer to read, no less!) would be outstanding.

Why not list those reasons? Seems to me it would be cheaper to make it pdf than printing it, and you're already soliciting donations. I would donate for a pdf. Not a chance for a tree that could be emailed instead.

I'm in. I have no issue with a printed version instead of a PDF. The whole point of this is to provide a compliment to this site, and since the site is already digital, it makes sense to have a real-world presence as well.

Having a printed version a la millimeter or digital content producer etc is a nice thing to me. I'd be happy with a pdf, but I like passing paper things along to others. Not everyone is as internet savvy as us dvxusers :) I agree with Tony that a real world presence is a nice thing.

We've got a subscription page in the works, courtesy of Larry_R that is almost done. We'll have a main page and all that jazz soon too, but we might advance the subscription page ahead of that, so you folks can sign up and we can figure out what kind circulation we are talking about for the first issue.

Keep posting up here if you are interested in subscribing to this publication for now. Other suggestions, ideas, folks wishing to be contributors, etc... please feel free to pm myself or John rather than posting up here, if you don't mind.

About donations... Thinking about it. While it's a much appreciated gesture on the part of those of you who have suggested it, we'll probably forgo that option. Free is free. It ain't about making dollars. It's about the "User's" as always. It's about the content. "Powered by Filmmakers like you" :)

Something I'm forgetting....

There'll be a couple of options for you to choose to help us in future development when you subscribe through the subscription page.

Keeping in mind, this won't be like your run of the mill magazine that supplements income by renting out your personal information, etc... We won't do that. Your personal information is yours.

Ok, I guess I should shut up now and follow my own request:

I'm in.

Later,
Jason

Will the issues be numbered so we can keep the first issue as a keep sake? will there be a commerative gift like a dvxuser keychain or something to kickoff the first issue?

A print version makes plenty sense and is great.

but a PDF for us international folk is better, that way we don't have to wait 3-6 weeks for it to arrive, and it doesn't cost you a cent if we download a PDF, besides all publishing software packages these days can save out a PDF.

Maybe make the PDF available say 3-5 days after mailing out the printed version?
