Trademarking A Production Company Name

I'm looking to trademark my production company name. What's the going rate these days for a trademark, and what's the process of getting a name trademarked? I looked on USPTO's website, and was so confused my head hurt.

it's about 2500 bucks. The nerve racking part is the crap shoot. That money goes for the search of existing trademarks and ya wont get that beack should they return with a "sorry, man."
Have a copyright lawyer do it for you (hence the 2500 bucks). A regular atty or a traffic ticket lawyer will not do the same search a real copyright lawyer will do.
If memory serves, it took about 3 months to find out if I was golden or not.
My logo is tradmarked and the name is copyrighted. I market this venture virally so the infractions are a planty as you can imagine. Some actually make their money this way. I don't. I don't mind free publicity.
 
you can trademark the name AND the logo right? you don't HAVE to have the name copyrighted correct?

i highly doubt my production company name is taken... but you guys know better than i do.

You can register the trademark yourself for much less (about $800, I think), but without a proper trademark search you might indeed get the "sorry, man" answer.

Oh, and business names can be trademarked, but not copyrighted. (http://www.copyright.gov/help/faq/faq-protect.html#band). Now your logo can be both copyrighted (as a visual work) and trademarked (as a logo), if you want.
