Postal and the anti Boll anti Bay Petitions...

I have always considered Boll one of the worst in the business, though my personal disdain for Bay oustrips what I feel for any director including Boll.

Postal looks like it is going to be quite funny and probably Boll's best film.

However, I am sure you all know about the anit Boll petition and his claim that he will stop directing if it gets to one million signatures.

I feel the situation is ridiculous. No matter how bad a filmmaker is, there is no reason to petition them especially when guys like Bay are around. Anyhow, I support the anti Bay petition because it is out of principle. It is important that if Boll has one, Bay should have one so that one guy is not scapegoated for poor quality filmmaking.

Bay has always annoyed me because there are guys on this very site who are fifty times better than the guy, yet he comes off as incredibly arrogant in interviews and on his ego tistical website.

Anyway here is the link to the anti Bay one that started a few days ago. The anti Boll one is everywhere so you won't have trouble finding that one.

I don't hate BAy; guy makes money and the studios are happy

I'm just waiting for him to do something that carries weight.

I might be i nthe minority on this this but PEARL HARBOR wasn't the worst film I've seen. I enjoyed it if even for the popcorn love story and attack sequence.

I think petitions like this are pretty silly.

Studios will hire directors who make them money. Can't speak to Boll's numbers, but Bay has made, literally, billions of dollars in box office receipts.

You can hate on him all you want, but people pay to see what he makes, and as long as he wants to do it and can continue to bring in the bucks, he's going to work.

That's a fact.

You can be all frustrated that "that talentless hack" can make all these movies and bring in that kind of scratch, but honestly, that's your problem, not his.

Well, if so many people on this board are so much better than Bay, why haven't they made a full feature film that has brought in millions?

He made it, you didn't...so you sign a petition?

If you think you are better than him, make a film and when you hit the big screen - or have the credits that Bay has, then maybe, just maybe will I believe you.

I'm in that minority as well.

Fact is, Bay may not be the most talented, but I've come to enjoy a small handful of his films. Turn off your brain, and the island isn't all too bad. Same for Pearl Harbour.

These petitions are pointless.

Uwe Boll I hate though. I think he's a Pr*ck. I still doubt he'd quit if he gets 1 mil people to sign.

I hate when people try to make this argument. People have a right to dislike whatever they want. Just because they can't do whatever the artist or entertainer is doing doesn't mean their opinion is meaningless. I can say so and so is a lousy pro baseball player even though I can't play even close to their level. I can say this guy is a lousy President and cast my vote against him, even though chances are I could not do the same job. People don't see the work, only the result, and if the result stinks then they'll say YOU stink. One thing I've learned as a filmmaker is that the audience DOES NOT CARE how much effort went into making what they are watching. You do not get points with them just because you actually made something. They want to be entertained. They want to like what they are seeing. If they don't, they have a right to not like it and voice their opinion. Yes, it is infinitely easier to sit on the sidelines and critique someone else's work, but it's your job as an artist to make it easy for someone to sit and watch your work so that's part of the deal.

I liked Transformers and The Island. Totally worth my ticket price.

I've never liked anything Boll has made at all. Not even a little bit.

Nothing against Bay, always been suportive. Favourite Director alongside Tony Scott. Personally don't know what everyone has against him except his habbit of not keeping it together and shouting everyone. Damn got one post left now.

Well, on the same token...

Bay has always annoyed me because there are guys on this very site who are fifty times better than the guy

You can't say my argument is off base when people make the above one. I know people can dislike whomever they want. Yet to claim an unheard of film maker who has made a few videos for online fests are 50 times better than said hollywood film maker is just stupid. That is why I make the argument I do.

Sincerely, If you gave the Pearl Harbour/ Transformers Script/budget/talent to Boll, I believe the result would be very similar. Both Bay and Boll are very similar in film language.

I personally think both lack sensibility- that special something that adds depth to films, may it be visualy or in story/flow.

In other words, they can make a story happen, but never do anything that excel. they are average/mediocre.

For the record: Uwe Boll is an act. AN ACT. A friend of mine interviewed him. He's a quick-witted, smart fellow who knows exactly what he's doing. His so-called pretentiousness and arrogance is just to generate a buzz and a cult following. He knows his films are bad, and he wants to keep it that way to be "a legend of crap," if you will. Why do you think he's always making video game movies?

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he could make a good film...

Bay on the other hand...

Ugh, my problem is not Uwe Boll's personality, but that he keeps ruining perfectly good franchises left and right! Dungeon Siege could have made a great movie but then Uwe Boll got his hands on it. Who can make a Dungeon Siege movie now? It's kind of like the Dungeons & Dragons fiasco. "How can we fix that now that everyone has seen this? I know! Let's have the Sci-Fi Channel make the sequel straight to TV! They make good films, right!?" Ugh...

I actually agree.

First, if you watch Boll's prior interviews, anyone will realise how smart and articulate the man is. He is nothing like Bay in that sense. Boll talks like a filmmaker who considers the art of his craft. Yes, his films are bad, but this whole Postal thing is a stunt.

In addition, if you watch say In The Name Of The King, you realise that one of Boll's main problems is script choice. That film was rather well shot, the editing was average and the look was not at all bad. However, the dialogue and story were awful. Bay has never directed anything that resembled a normal film to me. They are just long commercials. I have no idea how people call him a movie director. Boll makes bad films, Bay never troubled himself with trying to make an actual film.

I said stuff about people on here being better than Bay and I truly believe they are. Guys like Carugon for instance would wipe the floor with the guy based on what I have seen him do on this site. So what that many of you haven't got contracts? You do realise 50% of movie success is luck right? 30% is extreme hard work, 10% is perseverance and 10% is talent unfortunately. Talent is probably the last thing that determines success in film. Don't make the argument that because no one here has done what Bay has done, so he HAS to be better. It is like saying Hitler was the best man to lead Germany because he managed to get there and the other millions of Germans are not qualified to question his rule. Where is the logic in that?

I stand by my statement that this site has a ton of filmmakers, who given the chance, are better than Bay.

I think that 30% is all about who you know in the industry, like I know someone who knows someone or my cousin is a producer etc...

But good point on your post.

i have nothing agianst bay... i woudlnt consider him a bad director... i consider BOLL a bad director...well or bad @ picking scripts??????

i think ppl hate bay because he makes big block buster popcorn films that look slick..dolly this dolly that. I enjoyd both bAD BOys films, they were great.
I enjoyd the bay/simpson movies of yesteryear.....
Boll might be all an act .... hard to say..... but he is doing a great job getting publicity...be it negative..its still publicity..hes always talked about and that is somthing that he is doing right! The way to be in this business is to be talke bout...
