uwe boll will quit filmmaking-click here lol

Uwe Boll is a fascinating case study. Just shows how important "salesmanship" really is in show business. Because that is surely Boll's secret. I first came to know his name, not because of a film, but because of his boxing match with film critics. He's charismatic, good looking and ballsy. He looks and talks the way a "director" is supposed to look and talk. I think it all speaks much more loudly to the inanity and stupidity of the rest of the business than it does to Boll's talents. Maybe there should also be a petition to stop anyone who ever fascilitated the making of a "Uwe Boll film," like the really stupid studio and development executives.

he recently did an interview with GQ.

enlightening as to how he goes about his creative process...

mostly like

"add some more vampires there..."

"cut that oil tanker blowing up in there..."

more or less a modern day ed wood. although i don't think he loves movies like ed wood did. based on the interview it sounded like he just makes movies to make movies. not necessarily because he really loves the work.

Entertainment Weekly has an article about Boll's movies. After reading the article I realized I have never watched a single one of his films. I may just have to just to see what everyone is talking about.

I think the funniest part might be that Postal is coming out next month and Bowl couldn't buy as much publicity as the petition and his viral video are generating. The lack of pretense and unapologetic approach to filmmaking is rare, and if he actually made good movies people would flock to him rather than scorn him.

I guess if Postal rocks, he'll have the last laugh. Maybe he knows it's good, and that's why he's so brazenly offering to quit filmmaking (because if it IS good, he can save face and not quit after all?).

But given his oeuvre, the chances of Postal being good are really really small. Then again, like that EW article says, even a broken clock is right twice a day.

When you get 24 separate producing credits and 19 directing credits....

Then you can call him a "douche"

I have worked with any number of people who have exponentially more producing and directing credits than I do - seeing as that's not my particular discipline - and I don't hesitate for a moment to describe as "douches" the people who, well, fit the bill.

I can't believe the amount of people sort of sticking up for this tool. Now this is just my two cents, but this guy is ridiculous. He HAS to be joking in that video. There is no way he can think his films are that good. There is no way he can actually say the words "I'm the only genius in the f***ing business" and actually be serious. Just because this guy can get funded to make movies in Hollywood doesn't make him anything.

There are A LOT of bad movies coming out of Hollywood, but in my eyes, this guy's films aren't considered just bad. They are atrocious. People want him to stop making movies because he is taking a dump on every video game he lays his hands on. I'll admit, I love video games, and seeing directors like him take good video games and make them into terrible films is just depressing.

Let's see some examples... Here are some fairly recent bad movies out of Hollywood... Prom Night, The Ruins, 88 Minutes, Fool's Gold, Step Up 2: The Streets, Jumper.

I hate to say this, but I would rather watch ANY of these movies before I had to sit through an Uwe Boll film. I signed the petition because he is taking other peoples (video game) stories and characters and tearing them to shreds with cheap sets and costumes, terrible dialog, and incoherent plots.

Sorry that I just went off on a rant.

To put it simply, whatever magic Uwe Boll has to get financing and named talent I wouldn't mind having. 20 movies under his belt and 6 more in various stages of production. He's obviously doing something right on the business end of things.

Of course its ridiculous. A "sane" response in the form of an internet video is much less likely to go viral which means much less likely to generate a bunch of free press a month before one of his films comes out.

Actually I think most of his movies are done in Europe :2vrolijk_08: and what he is is a financially successful filmmaker (which I think is a similar goal to most everyone here).

At first I didn't think I had seen any of his so I couldn't join in on insulting him, but then I realized he directed house of the dead.

That was one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

Even if he claims that he was joking. I'll still find it absolutely hilarious that he challenged the public to get one million signatures of people asking him to stop making films and they did.

My favorite part of that suckfest was when they cut in footage from the game. A close second was the blatant SEGA branding at the party in the beginning.

I actually have no idea how anyone could have thought that was a good idea.

I didn't think it was possible for my response to topless women to be "well this is just blatantly tacked on", but he managed it.
