Powering the Red One

hi,

I just landed a steadicam job using the revolutionary and very sexy looking Red One. Only problem is, the red brick is going to overweight my system so I was hoping I could power the camera from the steadicams Vlock battery system. Does the red camera has a 4pin XLR arri power input?

Thanks

Which Steadicam are you planning to use?

The Flyer WILL NOT handle it. That is the only Steadicam brand rig that will be overloaded by the Red in a light configuration. Anything from an Archer on up will be OK.

Should be using a Clipper or an Ultra for the Red in my opinion.

Here is a link to a video that shows how to configure the Red in a light (22 lb) configuration.

Since you are mounting on a Steadicam, your results will vary with the other items you need, like remote follow focus, etc.

Good luck.

Hi,

Against all odds and ignoring just about everyone that told me it was impossible, I managed to fly a RedOne on a steadicam Flyer :-D

Stripped it down to just body lens and battery. Had to use the little LCD but its fairly lightweight and we had to use the remote follow focus motor but I managed to get it all working and ballenced fine.

The red is such a nice camera, we had two for the day, one which was mine for the steadicam. It was called Ruby and Im missing 'her' already :-D

I could tow a car with enough paper clips too. Just because you can, doesn't make it smart.

The Steadicams are built for specific payloads. Everything from the gimbal to the springs in your arm to the ability to properly achieve dynamic balance is affected by overloading the rig. All of those things and much more affect your ability to operate.

The Red is such a fine camera, the way you have it slapped to this rig is only going to detract from the potential that that camera provides.

But hey, have it your way.
