Has anyone read "The Art and technique of Digital Color Correction"?

I've been searching for a book or resource on color grading technique - not anything software specific, but something about the craft of color grading itself. Sort of in the same way you can find books on editing techniques that aren't specific to any piece of software (I mean, a cut is a cut and crushed blacks are crushed blacks, right?).

Anyhow - I saw this book recently and it apparently just came out a few weeks ago -
The Art and Technique of Digital Color Correction.

It sounds like what I'm looking for - and I've read the first book Hullfish put out a few years back (incidently it's a good primer for those who know nothing about color work).

Figured I'd ask here before spending $50 on a book that may not exactly be what I'm hoping. I checked around and none of the stores near me seem to have it on the shelf, so I can't go check it out myself.

So - any reviews?

I haven't read it, but if you do, I'll expect you to do my color work for me from now on, at a significant discount, of course. :D

I haven't read it yet. But it's in my Amazon Cart. I noticed what Lucas Wilson of Assimilate (Scratch) had to say about it and immediately stuck it in my cart.

You've got a deal.

(notice I did not include the part about a significant discount in your quote)

That might be good enough for me, Blaine.
Thanks for pointing that out.
Like I said, I picked up Hullfish's first color correction book a few years ago when it came out - and it was a good way to get started.
So this book is probably a pretty safe bet... and it's not exactly an arm and a leg.

Yet one more reason why my wife is bad ass....

She just told me she ordered this book for me as a valentine's day gift.
I was just talking about the other day, and to my surprise...she was listening.
:)

It'll take a few weeks to get here - but after that I'll post up a review for those who might be interested.

Woo Hoo!
Just got this in the mail today.
Looks to be pretty meaty.

As soon as I finish up the book I'm currently reading, I'll dive into this.
On first glance, it looks like it's exactly what I was looking for.

Cool, keep us posted - I've been looking for some guidance in CC'ing as well. I just dont feel all that confident doing much more than adjusting the input output levels.

I'm reading it now. A very good book.

It cuts through a lot of the crap about CCing, and focuses on the basics of getting a good image. Unfortunately it's very Mac oriented (most of the examples use Color or FCP), but I've had little problem converting the techniques to Vegas.

Any more thoughts pmark23? I also use Vegas (and Avid) and I am thinking about buying either this book or an other with shady reviews on Amazon

I have a copy of "Photoshop Color Correction - The Essential Guide to Color Quality for Digital Images" by Michael Kieran.

http://www.amazon.com/Photoshop-Col...14/ref=sr_11_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1208660222&sr=11-1

It is an older book but is about 400 pages long, and is extremely informative. But it is by far the most in depth book on CC'ing in photoshop I have read so far (not counting yours), as well as going into great detail about digital color theory, different uses for color modes, and a host of other info. It was printed in 2003, the time of Photoshop 7.

Luis, you ought to look into it as a companion for the one you just received.
