Brand new Sony Z7 with SGpro

Hi,

We were going to hire an XLH1 to do this short film with the SGpro, but when it was arrived it was totaly knackered. Image was all grainey with lots of digital noise, totaly useless.

We sent it back and we were sent back a week old Sony Z7 - the new sony with the interchangable lenses. After bolting it down to the SGpro and doing abit of filming we were pretty pleased with the images.

I havn't captured much yet but what I have captured looks pretty nice.

Looks good, still not a huge fan of HDV, but hey, whatever gets the job done, I'm still in DV world!

Havnt got any footage yet, will get some tonight if I can.

Its about £3500 inc vat.

This camera is great, it is kind of a cross between the XLH1 and the sony EX1. Its small (ish) and it has interchangable lenses. Its also really nice to use, looks cool and the LCD is really sharp. The viewfinder is good, the audio support is great the menu system works well and it has really nice buttons with rubber grommets over it which are quite good to use.

Its a proper lens with proper zoom with a servodrive, not an electronic one like the Z1.

All in all, it does everything, with an adapter its a great cinema style camera and without the adapter its a good documentary / ENG camera. Also has native progressive scan which is a bonus.
 
nice. the reds look way too hot though.. had to colour correct them :D

if anyone is interested..
gamma = 1.6
desaturated and lowered the amplitude of the the reds
10% dark brown wash
and some other little nitpicky stuff that doesn't do much :)
 
I was woundering how good the SG follow focus is?
can you tell me how much play it has? do you like it?
 
Hi,

The SG follow focus has a hidden adjustable collar that increases and decreases the play. Once this has been played with, and the grub screws are done up tight, it has very little play. Mine has about 1mm, Ive used £2000 arri follow focuses that have more play than the SG...
 
WOW. only 1mm of play!!
that is such a good FF for the cost of £199!!!
..but it seems like you can't use speedcranks or whips........(or can you)???

All new orders of the SGfollow focus will now have a standard accessory port.

Also, an adapter for all previous units will be ready in about a week.
