Compressor 3 Claims To Do Blu-Ray (Is Apple Lying)

If you want to author Blu-Ray on a Mac you need Adobe Entourage. DVD SP can author HD-DVD files onto SD-DVD media, but it has limited compatibility in play back devices.

It appears one cannot buy Encore only for Mac, and I would have to get the whole CS3 bundle, which I don't want or need. Any word on when Mac folk are getting around to adding Blu-Ray to DVD SP, and if they'll be charging extra for the upgrade? Am a die-hard FCP user, and would hate to be forced to change over something like this, which they obviously HAVE to take care of.

Perhaps they mean you can create media for Blu-Ray, that's different from actually authoring a Blu-Ray disc and burning it. For those you need Encore as of the moment.

That's what I figured, but they've got to be working their patosah lagoos off getting DVD Studio Pro Blu-Ray capable...

Wouldn't bet on it. Apple crafted the entire Final Cut Studio suite by acquiring existing products engineered by other companies one program at a time.. I honestly don't think they have the engineering staff or desire to solve complex software issues that professionals need. Their history of major unresolved software bugs over the last five years does not exude confidence, to say the very least. And, before everyone chews my head off and calls me a flame baiter, please read through some of the 3000+ posts I've made over the years. I have been on Mac and using Final Cut Pro for a long, long time and have lost faith in their ability/desire to create world class editing products that meet the needs of professionals. They released a few well marketed applications in the early 2000's that helped sell their expensive hardware and have made impressive acquisitions over the years to encourage users to purchase high margin upgrades, but let's face it, they are an iPhone company now... They only invest where there are high $$ returns, and major revisions to the Pro Apps do not generate the kind of dollars they are accustomed to with iPhones.

Sad.

I posted an answer about this in another thread. Its pretty easy.

Yes. DVDSP wont burn Blu-Ray. BUUUUUTTTT it will author and export a HD image, which you can then burn using Roxio or DVD-it. Cant remember which. But if you look on the apple website, they talk about DVD images it outputs, Find the one that does HD (CMF 2.0 i think, make sure you check) and then find a product that will do that. THen your set. Work around i know but hey, burning to a new media is not a simple thing to add in, and when they released FCs 2, the BLu-ray HD-DVD war wasnt won yet.

Hope this helps

Mark
