Shooting an event to go to DVD

Here's something I haven't done and was wondering if anyone has any experience.
I have a client who wants to do an all day shoot of makeup sessions, 20 minutes each with 10 minutes rest between each session. They want us to shoot the session, no editing, and burn it raw to DVD and have it ready at the end of the 10 minutes to hand to the client.

I said I thought that was a bit tight if not nearly impossible, just the compression to mpeg 2 alone would take 10 minutes on a high end MacPro, but they said someone did it for them before using iDVD and a macbook pro.

So I'm guessing they shot straight to MPEG 2 and dropped it on a DVD and "finished" it within the 10 minutes.

Anyone have any suggestions/experience?

I don't the think client has any clue what they are talking about. 20 minutes of footage would take around 3-5 minutes to encode on my 8 core MacPro. Then I would have to build a DVD in DVDSP-another 3 minutes. Burning to DVD would probably take 5 minutes. Why don't you just use a DVD recorder to do the job? Much quicker and easy to do.

Thanks Matt. I kind of thought the same thing. What do you mean use a DVD recorder? I know what you mean, but how? I have to shoot the thing onto either P2 or tape...somehow get it to a recorder. I guess I could go directly through an RCA or S-Video feed. Is that what you mean?

Thanks again for the reply. I kind of thought it sounded weird that someone can shoot a 20 minute video and get it to an actual playable in any player, type DVD.

Yes to the RCA/S-Video. I have actually done this before when I shot motivational speakers who needed to walk out with their speech at the end of their session.
