BIG news from Letus!

Yea, to second Ryan on that: well put Disjecta. But to compare to the P&S you might want to factor in the cost of Zacuto rails just to be 100% fair and consider ruggedness, and then it is less than 1/2 the price and waaay better quality, and ready for FF and a MB.
As always, good point disjecta.

So are all of you guys going to Scarlet + Ultimate? If so, are you getting a RedRock MB? What lenses? Will u guys be using a Carrion? I am curious cause those are going to be SICK setups! We will need some flash cards too... and only FCP will do... all of that 4k work flow shi** will become a necessity to many more with Scarlet coming out. Man! Some serious stuff!

I just might be getting one of you guys and use my HVX for BTS! :)

Scarlet is still in development. I'm sold on the HPX170 so far, that'll be my Ultimate combination.

About the price tag: This product is exactly what Disjecta pointed it out to be. Just like the RED ONE may not be worth it to some, the Ultimate may not be worth it to some. Having the freedom to use the camera in every situation is definitely worth it to a lot of people.

I guess it will also be competing with the movietube jr? Same price tag I think. Movietube is static design right? I haven't seen any footage from it. These adapters are all way out of my budget but it will be interesting to see comparisons.

Problem with static design is that you can't close down to far or use high shutter speeds.

That's the beauty of the Ultimate: You can continue to use your camera and lens to it's fullest (assuming the external conditions allow it) and not have to worry about seeing a spinning ground glass, oscillating grain or even static grain.

It's not really a competitor of Movietube because it can do so much more. The Ultimate is a spinning adapter vs. static, allowing shooting at tiny apertures where the movietube breaks beyond f4.0

Kholi beat me to the punch....I don't think the limitation with static adapters is with the shutter speed, just the aperture openings...I could be wrong on that one.

you can use retardedly fast shutter speeds on static adapters...

when i need real speed i use my go35............

Nah I'm probably wrong on it. Couldn't remember which one it was.

Edit: see, Luis says you can.

But, it is a direct competitor to the P+S Tec line of adapters in that it also has a paired B4 Relay option (Which can also be used with the Extreme, but more-sold with the Ultimate.). Nine-grand gets you much more than a twenty-grand setup from P+S.

Kholi, yes, i am all about the all HD native HVX... sensitivity is the #1 thing to add to the HVX, and it becomes that much more valuable when adding glass to it. But I can't help but think about 2009! I mean you guys will go awol over Scarlet, unless something goes -seriously- wrong before it is released... even so it still will be SO much more sensitive, that on top of the ludicrous size increase from 1080.

Are any of you guys going to upgrade to the HPX170? I can't really justify it in any sort of way, but I am very interested on checking out the footage.

2009 for Scarlet is incredibly optimistic. Especially EARLY 2009. I think that's why the disclaimer about dates and info subject to change is made very clear. You may not see it til early 2010 but I'd be happy to be completely wrong about that. I definitely want to grab one.

However, you CAN count on seeing an HPX170 this fall. And, really, there's no sense in waiting on something when there's another really good camera right around the corner. Ideally, if you're buying and owning these things you're paying them off with work, so when another rolls around and you want it you can justify the purchase because you can pay it off in a short amount of time.

If Barry's calculation is correct and the HPX170 is more like 500 ISO/ASA, droppin' on will take away the gained 1/2 stop so you're somwhere around 320 ISO/ASA again. That's a pretty good place to be.

This past Saturday, shooting RED ONE at 320 with the HVX + Extreme right beside it-- both units had Zeiss Standard Cine Primes attached-- the HVX + 35mm Adapter could barely get proper exposure. With the RED I was able to actually stop down a little bit.

There's a lot of things that excite me about the HPX170, but the camera being faster before the adapter helps out a lot.

Yea, I totally see your situation, I wish I could pay off the camera but I am on a completely different game here. The HVX for me was more of a creative freedom luxury purchase... but if I were making money with it I'd be doing the same as you. But I guess for me it will be only big jumps like from a DVX to an HVX and later to a Scarlet... I hope I will soon go to a better place and start buying these tools.

Pfft. Me? I'm broke! I still eat Beans and Hot Dogs for dinner, man.

I was just sayin', Scarlet's vapor (not in the negative since) until we get a hard release date. But if you don't need a new cam then you can really just wait it out.

I just moved up from Bread and Water. And they're those REAL BEEF hotdogs too, man. Suckers taste like steak after you grill 'em. Well, I'm bein' optimistic about that.

If I cram enough beef hotdogs into my sandwich maker, in about 10 minutes you'd think you had a couple of steak patties ;) - maybe I'll try wrapping bacon around them for a special "filet ballpark" treat!

I beat you all... I starved myself for 6+ months and now I am seriously fuked up... I have "abnormal liver functions" said the doc whom I saw for the first time in say 5 years... I find out around Thursday exactly what I gave myself

but hey, I am basically going through film school without paying... s'all good
