Difference between P&S and all others?

Ok, i work at a rental house in Hollywood where we rent just about everything imaginable. The most popular item there is the P&S technic 35mm adapters. We have two there, 1)is for the 2/3" chip cameras and 2)is for the 1/3" chips (HVX,DVX,Z1U etc). When asking our head lens techs what the difference between the P&S's and others he responds that the others don't even compare, that's why the others are 1000-2000 and the P&S's are 10,000-12,000.

When i asked specifics he brought up the glass used, the materials, the tightness of manufacturing, etc.

I've messed with them and yes they are extremely well built and sturdy but i guess I just don't have a firm grasp on how the others compare.

What are your all's thoughts and explanations?

Yeah, that was another thing they mentioned... they shoot them up on big projectors and inspect them for stuck "grains" and dust etc. after each rental to make sure. On the cheaper ones can't you just zoom in a little past the soft areas?

I never used one....
but I've read from other users that say the Letus Extreme does as good as the P+S tech.
even Berry said he would rate the Letus Extreme in the same class as the P+S tech.
so I guess the diffrence isn't as big as it used to be....like when it first came out..

I rented P&S several times before I got my own LEX.
So having them on the same camera I can say the main differences are

1. The P&S is as much overestimated as overpriced
2. The lightloss of the P&S is a shame compared to the LEX
3. E2E sharpness of the LEX is at least par if not better with the same 35mm lens at the same zoom settings (with the new Achromat)
4. The Bukeh is different - the P&S is a tad more filmish.
