Out of Sync audio and video

I am working on a DVC PRO HD 720p 59.94 project.

I use the easy setup.

I capture my footage from a Panasonic deck via firewire.

When I playback my footage in FCP, it's out of sync.

When I close FCP and open the captured file with quicktime, it's still out of sync.

What am I doing wrong? I must have a bad capture setting?

Thanks!!!

While in FCP, if I unlock the audio from the video and plus the audio 10 frames, everything seems to be in sync. What would cause this issue?

NOTE:

I did go to the playback control setting and the offset was set to 4. I put it to zero. That didn't seem to change anything.

I can't answer specifically but... The DVX100 had a sync offset of about a frame and a half through firewire. Ten frames is pretty extreme. The things that I would look at are 1) playback. Are you looking at it on the computer monitor or are you going out to an external monitor? Plasma displays have a considerable lag (like 4+ frames), also FW to DV boxes have a lag (~~5 1/2 frames). Add those together and your i the ballpark of your delay. Though the wrong way. Is the audio going through some processing?

If the sync issue shows up in QT playback through the computers speakers and on the computer monitor then I would look at your capture set up and see if anything is passing through a box that might be delaying one or the other.
The only other thing I can think of would be if your audio is in some compressed format. I'm assuming the audio is in 48/16 AIFF. If it's AC3 or MP3 or something like that then what your probably seeing is the time it takes the computer to decode the audio. You should not work with compressed audio formats.
