effects on different segments in space of a video clip

Supposing there is a clip and on the left half of the screen i wanted to key out blue and on the right half, key out yellow.

Is there a way, using this one clip (not copying the clip and cropping one side off of each) - actually just selecting space in the one clip and applying effets to each selected space?

Thanks, well at least now I know to look for other solutions.

Hi Capt Mench - I tried duplicating and cropping but I was getting a thin white line of pixels around the cropped edge in the finished product... Really bad if the shape wasn't a square, but even when the shape was a square, it was visibly separated... And feathering the edges wasn't producing the results I wanted either...
 
Many ways to skin this cat.

Not sure why you are getting a white line I don't. You could try a garbage matte on the second clip too... or even mess with some shapes and composite modes.

All the tools are there for you.
