Parted with my SG

You'll be back....You'll start spotting the groundglass vibrating in every dark corner and start changing the batteries on your Lex obsessively to no avail.

I know, it happened to me.... Now I'm looking for excuses to hold onto my LEX.

The day the SGpro becomes more light efficient, is the day it takes over all.

Having said that, I love my LEX. I just wish I could tune the vibrating of the GG like the P&S.

@ papa: why are you saying that ? I've read just now on the sticky thread at the top of this page the tests done by lennnilapy, (i don't know if i wrote his user name corecctly) which seem to be the most accurate and accepted light loss tests on these boards, that the LEX and the SGpro loose about the same quantity of light...about .07 - .1.2 stops.
As i understand the .07 value if for the LEX and the other one is the SGpro with the flip installed. Is this 0.5 stop loss such an inconvenient or am I missing something ?

Yeah right. SGpro and Letus don't lose anywhere near the same light. Sorry man.

All adapters have their shortcomings, Tim's not crazy for trading out for the light loss. Half a stop + is what I see, scientifically proven or not. And that half a stop equates to more money for lighting.

I say if you combine SGPro and Letus Extreme's best qualities you'd have a P+S Killer. That also means more money.

That said, I'd buy it and wouldn't think twice about it if it came in at about 5k.

I'd hope that a SGPro and Letus Extreme combined wouldn't cost $5k. You can buy each for $1500 a piece if you really wanted to. I would be willing to pay maybe double cost ($3k) for a rock solid adapter with P&S type qualities. Any more and its time for a 2/3" setup.

IMO SG only needs these improvements to truly be a force to be reckoned with:

-Improve light loss by 1/2 stop through a better flip with X/Y adjustments
-HVX specific Achromat
-Improved EF/Nikon Mounts with Micro collimation
-Improved Battery system (internal in flip?)
-Adjustable motor speed
-Improved mounting to the rails (lose the plastic)

I think 2 of those things are scheduled for release in the next week or two (achromat and Mounts) which I'd be willing to pay a couple hundred bucks for if it arrives in the next few weeks.

Hi,

I will try to explain what we have planned below:

-Improve light loss by 1/2 stop through a better flip with X/Y adjustments
The main goal of the SGpro is to produce the best image quality with amazing bokeh rendition. Lowering the lightloss would compromise this, resulting in hazy bokeh. However, the 'SGblade' will be designed to be more compact, Lightweight with the lowest lightloss possible.

X/Y adjustment is something we are adding. If you already own a flip module, this can be added to.

-HVX specific Achromat
Now that we have moved to our own flip module (due to the reasons mentioned in another thread) we are now using our own SG optics and achromat. This has been tested with the EX1 (footage up soon!) and we are very happy. The good news is, like with the non flipped SGpro, the achromat works equally well with the HVX200, FX1, XH-A1 for example, so no need to purchase seperate achromats - money saved!

-Improved EF/Nikon Mounts with Micro collimation
We will slowly be converting all of our SLR mounts to stainless steel. We have the prototype Nikon vers here, oh boy it is solid :)

Our current Nikon mounts already have collimation adjustment and we are adding this to the entire range of our mounts.

-Improved Battery system (internal in flip?)
This is something we are discussing right now.

-Adjustable motor speed
This is something we removed from the SGpro very early on as it was not needed.

-Improved mounting to the rails (lose the plastic)
This was removed last november :) I will get the EX1 footage up tonight with a photo of the EX1 on the lastest rod support.
