The IndiMatte...Resistance is futile

You misunderstand me.

I'm not saying that buying mass-produced items and reselling them for a profit is against their principles, I'm saying that doing so without undergoing any modifications on their part is. Some buy used or new cars, revamp 'em, enhance 'em and pimp 'em, and then resell them to make a profit. I say, if it's what Cinevate and IndiFocus do for their products, then there's nothing wrong with that. Now if it is the exact same product, without any modification on their part, then there IS a problem.

Dennis and Tim are fair and honest businessmen according to many customers, so like Postmaster said, it's very unlikely they're only reselling because it makes no sense and would only hurt their business.

So you believe that Cinevate's mattebox was designed in house and that all these other versions are exact copies of theirs? Really?
Or you believe that somehow Cinevate came up with an exact replica of the Indian mattebox but they designed it themseselves? Seriously???

Wow. PT Barnum was right....

Yes, I was fooled so much that I bought three. Oh wait, I already stated I didn't own the gear. Also, the Cinevate matte box has undergone at least one major revision. Is it the same thing as the India-sourced MB? I dunno. But I'll give a company that's done nothing but treated me beyond fairly the benefit of the doubt instead of just going off of website pics.

Just to answer someone's post about the magnet lock. They hold rock solid. Simple and effective. The swing out works a dream. And locks just as simply.

Thanks

I think what some of us are trying to get across is that we feel the Mattebox design has not been altered enough to justify the price jump. I have personally used these matteboxes because I own them. 3 in fact. I use them for documentary and ENG style stuff that is prone to more abusive situations for camera gear. At only $170 a pop they are practically disposable.

As I said, I have added a swing away, replaced stripped hardware, and even replaced the french flag with different material. End cost for me has been less than $30 for ALL of it. So where does the $150 price difference come for the indifocus version? I think that cinevate has a great idea by adapting their rail block and a MUCH better height adjustment support for their box. Theirs also includes side flaps but again the flaps only cost $50 extra from that "other" company and again the additions don't justify the price hike IMO.

When it comes to cinevate, I have had nothing but superb customer service. I have purchased 3 complete brevis setups from them either by myself personally or with one of my business partners for my company and am ordering a 4th one by the end of the week. Trust me, they have my business. I just feel that perhaps the design decision with this mattebox is a bit strange with all things considered. I am not attempting to run a company into the ground. Cinevate has far too many good products on their hands to let a mattebox ruin anything.

My only goal is to pass on my experiences to others. That is, after all, the point of this forum. You can find this piece of equipment cheaper elsewhere. If you like the couple of small additionals that the others did, then by all means buy theirs. I just hope that you are satisfied with the decision.

Why do you feel that way.

Ticket scalpers, Wii resellers, hot car buyer then reseller, real estate speculation, and day trading?

To my limited knowledge, pnly ticket scalping can be a gray area as there are jurisdictions were it is prohibited by law or ordinance.

But, I would be interested to hear why you feel this way all the same.
