aren't the gitzo legs geared more towards still photography? Dont know that they even have a set of legs with a bowl. FWIW I have the Miller Solo legs with the pads and love them. Love the pads too. Nice to have something to cushy to carry them around by.
Just grab the Vinten legs - 3 stage with pozi loc. If you have to carry them long distances (think hiking) them you might want to think carbon fibre. I have a set of the 3 stage and 2 stage vinten legs and they both stand up to anything.
i'll be shooting a doc in india, asia and around the world for the next 2-3 years (one man band) so i need something that will pack small but not wind-up when panning. my small gitzo sticks (which i love) will not take a real 75mm head.
Any last minute thoughts on either of these heads to fit with the gitzo legs above.
I have heard that these heads are essentially the same design with the same parent company.
I now understand that I will need a 75mm adaptor that lets either head ride the Gitzo Series 3 bases but the combo will stand a smidge taller. The Gitzo series 5 will allow the half ball to drop right in but these legs are bigger and weight more.
The short securing knob for Vision Heads (3321-30) will allow the tripods to achieve their minimum adjusted height but comes with a $289 price tag from Vinten. Ouch! Cheaper can be found here:
I need a bombproof combo that will achieve the tripod's minimum height and resist wind up yet pack down/ fold up into a smaller space than the traditional pro style legs.
Anyone out there mixed and matched Vinten/ Gitzo head/ legs?
Any and all thoughts appreciated
