Hyson Films - Has anyone received items from this seller?

I REALLY didn't want to write this but...

Just wondering if anyone's purchased from Hyson Films? I've been waiting on an order which I paid for on the 23rd of June 2007 (X matte box, rails) and am at my wits end.

I've been told multiple times my items have been sent/about to be sent but alas, nothing.

I have been very nice with my emails querying the order, never abusive.

Joel, the owner of Hyson Films sounds like a nice guy from all I've read and has been nice in the replies to my emails but come on, it's going on 10 months now since I placed my order.

The main reason I haven't yet asked to be refunded is that the products look really great and I like to help guys like Joel out who are running their own business.

So back to the topic - anyone else having the same troubles as me?

looks like he's closed up shop for the next couple weeks for a family emergency. 10 months is flat-out unprofessional and by now I'd consider myself scammed. i hope the attention given here gets some things moving forward for you.

Yes Joel has been in the wars lately so I've cut him a lot of slack but anyway you look at it I can't be a paid customer waiting this long - that's not how a business should be run.

Hi tmnt,
I've had some experience with joel before. I have ordered
a few products that came within his time frame. As for his
new product I have been waiting months too but I would
wait and bug to see what the progress is. I imagine there
must be a reason. He seems to have told me he made so
many modication and many problem with his manufactuer.
Overall if you are fed up waiting just ask for a refund.
I couldn't ask for a refund cause joel has never dissapointed
me when I finally got my products. I would've paid him
2 time worth because it's that good.

Other than that joel seems to be a good guy just behind
on his product delivery.

My last email exchange with Joel was in September. Ordered a mattebox from him in June 2007 and recieved it very promptly and am very happy with the product.

He's definitely had his unfair share of family issues and although it's difficult to run a business during those times, perhaps he should have put someone in charge of fulfillment. I'm not aware of anyone who's received the new X Matte box, as of September he noted he was still working on it, so not sure why he was taking orders back in July???

I don't think he's purposely scammed anyone. Again with the family issues (and I'd be the same to put family first), he should be getting help from someone to maintain business reputation.

Chenopup, that's exactly my thinking. I don't feel even for a second that I've been scammed but to shadow you, HF is a business and I should have been refunded my money within a reasonable time after paying for the order if it was looking like fullfillment wouldn't take place. Yes, I think a staff member or two to help grow the business would be great, hopefully in the near future Joel can put another person on (if he hasn't already).

Kind of annoys me when I go to the HF site and still see the X matte box (and always had) has a lead time of 4 weeks.

I'm not at all telling people to stay away from Hyson Films, the products look really, really solid (there's a new X matte box review over on the red forum by the way), though I am saying place your order with caution.

I wish Joel all the best but hope he can really start making some decisions with the business.

Who else has the X matte box and/or rails on order? When did you place your order?

I think you have to give him an email with a date to either ship the product or refund your whole amount. I'd give him 2 weeks to comply and then from there you should follow some legal channels.

We ALL have family emergences. EVERYONE so to use that as an excuse for extended amounts of time is just no justified. I'd say you have the patience that most people wouldn't demonstrate. For me, I'd be irate after two months..... for your patience you should be given an award.

Trust me, I've been very pissed off on the inside. I'm about to jump in the deep end and do a few weddings and need the matte box and rails as I brought the 2.8 nikon zooms. I've said to Joel before that I have this or that coming up to shoot and then usually get told it's 'been sent' or 'going in the mail tomorrow'.

Now that I've waited so long I'd rather just get the products VERY SOON than a refund. I'd be pretty bitter to just get my money refunded after all this waiting and the patience I've given. That said if the Redrock matte box was shipping I might have got a refund.

I received mine and it was worth the wait...He did indeed make a lot of modification to it and it's a great versatile Matte Box.

Joel emailed me explaining a couple things, hopefuly he may get time to post something here.

I know the equipment's going to be quality so I'll hold my breath a bit longer. Definitely check the review over at reduser for some more X matte box info.

Will keep you posted.
