First screengrabs of adpter with fiber screen and condenser

Hi,

after the promissing results of Postmaster's adapter, I bought a fiberscreen and an 8 diopter planoconvex lens as condenser. Unfortunately, I didn't worked cearfully enough when glueing the screen and the condenser on an uv-filter, so there are some dust spots. Anyway... here two grabs of the first shots I did with the adapter mounted on an HVX (both are colour corrected in After Effects: colour balance and blending mode). The cam filmed the whole 35mm film area (36mm lenght).

Happy to hear what you think about them.
Bye David

Check your lenses, achromats and cameras for the dust. The SG's are out of focus, you need to reset your flange (ground glass/screen).

The minor spots are in the GG, but the big ones are dust... I know it for sure cause on my first test without condenser, there weren't any big ones. And yes, the focal flange is not correctly set up (the GG is right now a little bit to close to the lense... around 41mm instead of 44mm).

An other pretty cool thing about this setup is that even while stepping down the aperture to f16, there is still no vignetting (ok there is, but only 1/4 f-stop).
Tomorrow, I'll try to put the GG and the condenser somehow in the gg holder from jetsetmodels.info (VH-57 Ver. 1.1).

A last thing which somehow lowers my joy about this adapter is the quality of the fiberglass to "pixelate" the image. If you look at the screengrabs, you'll see that they look like poorly compressed. I hope that I can get rid of this effect as soon as the gg is vibrating.

es gibt leider keine ganz einwandfreien Faserplatten, auch nicht in dem

Platten und kaufen sogar nach. Wie man mir sagt, machen es einige mit
Rotation, andere mit Vibration.

Unfortunately, there is not a proper fibreboard, not even in the
KB format. I can unfortunately not be changed. You are not the first to

Sure, I'll make some photos tomorrow and upload them, together with some clips. But until now, it's just a static adapter (still... if you watch it as footage it looks much better as on the screen grabs). I read the first time about these screens in a German blog, but the guy who tried it had big hot-spot issues, so I didn't tried it myself. When I read again about these screens here at dvxuser and saw so nice photos, I ordered one. The quality was ok, but there was a slight hot-spot. But together with a condenser lense from www.lupenshop.de (http://www.lupenshop.de/content/lup...5e1d6422741d43f4702064b/Product/View/1841&2D2)
with 8 diopter, it worked very well.
Good night

in your picture are you able to point out which ones are the "dead fibers"?
i'd really like to purchase one, but i'm afraid of getting hosed and receiving one
with "dead fibers" in it. looks like a nice piece of glass.

the bokeh is very hazzy, not so attractive in my opinion. Good job making it though!

Unfortunately, it's really not looking so nice (wax is much smoother). I'll try to use instead of the fiber screen a selfmade wax screen (just not sure when I'll find time for it).

Attached some photos of the adapter... it's nothing more than a fiber screen glued in between a planconvex lense (8 diopter) and an uv-filter which fits in a macro tube. As achromat, I used one from eBay from an Indian seller.

Also attached, a screen grab with the black spots of the gg encircled. The big one is my mistake, because the screen dropped once out of the setup. On earlier vids, there isn't any big spot. The thin lines are definitely dust, for the small dots I'm not sure... they will anyway disapear as soon as the gg is vibrating.

I had the same problem with my fiberscreen. You have to get it absolutley square to the optical path of the camera lens and the the pattern disapeares.

And I say absolut square a 10th or less of a mm makes the difference.
Also square to the optical path means not nessecary square to the lens flange as the inner components may be off a tad.

I was lucky in 2 ways. No black spots in the visible area of the fiber screen and square on the first try. But may be sheer luck thou.

I put my DIY Fiberscreen project in the wayting loop because I got a hotspot problem when stepping down, so I need a condenser in addition to the Achromat.

But I need a working adapter now for some projects so I got me a LEX and save the fiddeling with Fiberscreen for long winter evenings.
