FF: What seemed to be a mature disappointment turned out...

...to be the best thing that could have happened. I recently was very lucky to get an Arri mini Follow Focus from ebay for only 700 USD (usually they sell around 1300-1500). I wanted to use it with my HVX and the SGpro and therefore ordered a lens gear from Redrock. I was a bit worried that the lens gear wouldn't enlarge the diameter of the lens enough for the Arri FF to be compatible with my small lenses (nikon 50mm). The FF can't be adjusted as much as the Redrock FF. When I got the lens gear today it seemed like a major disappointment. It was much bigger than I expected and the diameter was now too big so I couldn't mount the FF anymore.
I was already thinking about how to sell the useless lens gear when I had an idea. I removed the top gear of the Follow Focus (see pics) so the lens gear could engage with the bottom gear on the FF. Guess what, it worked and the best thing is:
The Follow Focus "focuses" the right way and is not REVERSED anymore even though I use only still image lenses!!!! Isn't that great?:smile::smile::smile:

You'll love that extra large gear on still lenses. With the tight markings, it makes focus pulls alot more precise than flush gear rings.

Used to have an arri mini. Great unit. Just not as versatile as a double wheel. $700 though is a great price to pay.

Do you have to mount the FF on the dumb side of the camera then? The assistant's side is the smart side of the camera.

You are correct sir! I should've noticed all the lens front and Sachtler lettering was backwards too.

Matty_g: we definitely should have another dvxuser meeting
Tim Naylor: It's quite nice, it talks 1 and a half turn (on the FF) to get through the whole range.
Postmaster: Dann habe ich ja Glueck gehabt. Habe zuerst gezoegert (Ich dachte der Deal sei einfach zu gut um wahr zu sein) :)

Yes, the pictures are mirrored because I took them with my MacBookPro (PhotoBooth mirrors the pictures)
