Selling the biz!

Hey guys,

Maybe someone here has gone through this before and can help me out. I've been fortunate enough recently to begin screenwriting full-time and simply don't have the time to run the headshot business anymore.

I plan to sell the business and all my equipment in one package. Anyone here done this before? What steps did you take and where did you place listings, etc? Any tips on this would be great, thanks!

Hm, not an April Fool's day joke?! What's going on here alveraz?! Your photos are incredible and you're always updating your site to try to make it as professional and accessible as possible.

Screenwriting full-time does sound great though...

Thanks man!

I never got into this as a future gig. It was just something to pay the bills while writing. But I have a couple great assignments and a sale coming up that is finally kick-starting my real passion. Anyway, time to let the headshot stuff go. I'm quite relieved actually, my heart is not in photography, never really was.

But thanks!

Well, I think that by selling the business as a whole he'd probably be able to make a better chunk of change, if he included the equipment, etc. I have no idea how one would go about doing that though.

Impressive that your writing is taking you this far! Congratulations.

I have seen a sample of Alveraz's writing ... it is definitely what he should be doing. Good luck on your venture's .. looking forward to hearing good news about your ventures.

Personally, I'd at least hold on to the glass... the resale value on lenses does not drop. Especially good ones. That way later on if you decide you want to get a prosumer DSLR and just have some fun once in awhile, you can hookup the glass you want.

I guarantee if you ditch photography completely, a part of you will have regret selling everything.

But anyway... You'll make more money selling everything individually than one big package. Most professional photographers or advanced photographers, like to pick their own gear or are continuously adding onto their arsenal that already exists of gear. Most people just starting out who buy an entire setup, are usually beginners who have nothing and don't want to spend too much money.

If you have high-budge gear, it will be harder to liquidate together since most people can't afford all that together.

Congrats dude! I'm happy you are getting to follow your passion. I for one am hoping you keep your equipment even if you are selling the business, just so I can keep seeing those sweet photos! Best of luck man!

Oh, and I have no idea how to sell a business like that....but I'm guessing in your area you shouldn't find much trouble finding someone eager and willing to buy!
