Sold it! My screenplay--finalized deal this week!

Yes, with my script, I did use the stuctures from Truby, Vogler, Hauge/Williams.

Truby's latest book, The Anatomy of Story, is very good. I used it to get all the essential pieces of the story, then I put them together using Vogler's Hero's Journey model and the Hauge/Williams template (these latter two authors use what I consider the "standard" structure model).

Other good books I used to sprinkle on the details, for the (personal) rewrites:

Story Sense (Lucey)
The Art of Plotting (Cowgill)
45 Master Characters (Schmidt)
Writing a Great Script Fast (Sheridan)
Save the Cat (Snyder)
Power Screenwriting (Walker)
Screenplay: Writing the Picture (Russin)
Emotional Structure (Dunne)

The more authors/books you read, and approaches you study, the more likely you are to find a style/approach that works for you. Or just make a hybrid of your favorites.

Wow! Congratulations man thats fantastic!

If your screenplay is as well made as your reference guide I'm not surprised at all.

Seriously, send that to a publisher. It's like Cliff notes for scriptwriting. Definitely a handy tool. Thanks for sharing it.

kyle,

Did you read Chris Soth's ebook? How would you compare it to Gulino's Sequencing Method? Any better or worse?

EJ

Congratulations! That's awesome news.

I would personally invest in property. A house if you don't have one.
You can never go wrong that way.

Cheers!

Mike

Gulino's book uses many movie examples to illustrate the sequence concept, and for that reason I think it's more helpful.

But Soth's ebook is good because his descriptions of each sequence are more clear (may be more directed at action films, though, I don't remember) plus he talks about hope and fear in regard to tension in scenes and sequences.

Hey, man. Just saw this thread. I'm very happy for you. It's great to hear stuff like this. It's encouraging for us, and it makes me very happy for you.

Congrats to you on a fantabulous first deal.

 many more to come.

Later,
Jason

that is so wonderful, congrats. i love to see anyone make it . it gives us all hope to keep banging. have a huge steak and get back to work..lol

kyle, thanks for posting this. I don't even know you and yet you've inspired the hell out of me. I work a day job and I've been learning script writing for 5 years now. You've just done what I'd kill to do. So enjoy it :-). To help me I recently found a truly successful screenwriter (77 screenplays sold, 29 produced) to learn from (she reads my scripts and guides me). So I'll make it eventually, but stories like me remind me that people make it.

#1. CONGRATS!
The more authors/books you read, and approaches you study, the more likely you are to find a style/approach that works for you. Or just make a hybrid of your favorites.

#2. Wow, I agree with you 100%, especially the hybrid theory, I do that now. I've read the "books" but "life" has happened too...but I haven't stopped writing...so thanks for giving me hope, I'm only one step behind you!

Congrats again!
(Now...where do I find me one of them real estate agents?)

Hey Kyle,

I'm glad I don't have to pay taxes on $300,000. Just kidding --congrats on the sale. Always good to see some one from outside LA hit the jackpot.

I look forward to reading your manual. And I hope you film gets made.
