Any reason I shouldn’t use Canon/Nikon lens adapter?

I have a 35mm lens adapter with Nikon Mount. It seems I could get Canon primes for about half the price of Nikons.

Is here any trade-off for using the adapter (light loss, etc)?

I have so far only seen adapters for using Nikon lenses on Canon cameras ($15 on eBay), but the opposite will surely be available, too.

I don't understand how these work. Surely they add at least a few millimeters to the distance between optics and the focusing plane. Wouldn't that mess everything up?

Somebody mentioned a British forum thread about locking the Canon Aperture switch with a piece of Q-tip.

Anybody has a link?

Thank you,

Vt

The Canon (eos) aperture issue is an obstacle that should not be underestimated.

If you are buying an adapter and new glass, you may want to consider Nikon. I went with Canon (because I have a Canon still camera) and I am happy with my choice, but it would be a lot easier with Nikon lenses.

don't bother with any of the cheap lens-to-mount adapters on ebay. i speak from experience when i say you'd just be throwing money away. some of the higher-end adapters are apparently better, but if you're ready to drop hundreds of dollars on an adapter, it probably makes more sense to buy the extra lens mount.

here's the original q-tip thread you asked about. it contains some nice tips for canon fd users using lens mounts that don't allow aperture control.

Thank you, sir. I will take your advice and buy Nikon lenses. Surprisingly, the manuals are available for less locally than on eBay.
