3D Tracker ?

I don't know of any free trackers for the mac, but for the PC Voodoo comes to mind as well as Icrus.

I suppose you could run a windows emulator on your Mac and then run the tracker inside of it... a long shot.

Or just hand track, you might be pleasently surprised, sometimes hand tracks can be just as good.

PFHoe Pro is cheap and works well with HD files too. If you need DV you can look at PFHoe (basic version). I'm not sure if there are any free 3d trackers for Mac.

Anyone good at using voodoo?

Couldn't find any tutorials. I was able to follow the directions in the readme and got a decent motion match off the sample footage and exported it into blender. The motion is a little choppy.

There are a lot of settings on voodoo that I'm not familiar with. I am new to 3d tracking. I see voodoo pretty much just analyzes the footage with tons of points. Is there other software where I can:

place balls (tennis or ping pong) in my footage, take measurements of each ball relative to my camera, then input that data into the 3d tracker, and then have it solve for camera motion? Is this the way it's typically done?

I seem to remember that syntheyes had a mac version that was amazingly cheap but amazingly good. It's been a couple years but I recall being blown away by both the price and the performance.

Hey,

I'm pretty new to 3D... What exactly is a 3D tracker? Is it something that takes a tracked 2D image and applies it to a coordinate plane in 3D?

You take a video that you want to add an object to.
Import the video footage, avi or image sequence and track it.
That creates a camera file that you import into your 3D program.

Place an object in your scene, your video as a background, import & assign that camera and your object fits into the scene.
Here's a link. It's uses boujou but is the same idea behind any other tracker.
