Silent and portable way to light a Street.

So as the title says, i need a fully portable way to light an actor in a street.

There is very little street lighting, and i cannot use a generator (not enough space/to loud) or run a power cable.

I mainly need key lighting on the subject... I have considered china lanterns for soft lighting, tho i still need a way to power them.

any ideas?

I don't know how bright these things are but for $6 it might be worth looking into.

Runs for 5-7 hours on batteries. It might take a few of them but for a low cost no power option it might work.

Also if the light in not bright enough try throwing in one of these for a couple dollars more.

Since the stuff is only a couple of dollars it couldn't hurt to try. Maybe evening putting a couple of these in a larger china lantern.

theres some good ideas there thanks, i think the leds could work in a china lantern.

To clarify a bit, the scene has my actor running down a footpath. So perhaps having a large reflector in front to reflect the street lights, and leds for key lighting?

I don't think some LED's in a china lantern will give you nearly enough light to shoot an outdoor night scene...

I'd look into something like this: http://www.gifas.at/akkuleuchten/akku_multi.htm
The site is in German, just have a look at the pictures, it's a battery-powered 36W fluorescent worklight. 36W should be fairly bright if you're not too far away from your subject - and it's relatively soft by itself.

car power inverter... power it off a minivan... or any car near your set. Cigarette lighter socket or direct from the battery...

Turn the car on between shots or set ups. You can even re-task the head lights, for fill or even key light, depending on your shot, story ect...Bounce'em into foam core, reflectors, cover them with diffusion or cover them up . MY 2 cents....Keep jumper cables handy

This is some interesting technology to watch.

Silent and no emissions. Sounds perfect for film production.

Right now they are only 25 watts and it's hard to tell the run time, but I've heard talk of scaling the technology upwards by adding power packs enough to power 1200s.

The 1 - 3 million watt rechargeable spotlights from Walmart or Home Depot will work just fine. Diffuse it with blue frost for moonlight. Lift it high on a pole to shine down for street light effect.

Some models have a flood setting...but otherwise diffuse or reflect.

Mucho light for poco dinero.

I think you meant 1-3 million candlepower. If someone made a three megawatt flashlight it would be very heavy. :)

I'd be nervous about lighting with any kind of flashlight unless I was using a sensitive camera like the DVX.
