Large Amounts of Blood Spurting?

OK, you all probably recognize the scene in Kill Bill Vol. 1 with Bride vs. The Crazy 88 (here is a clip, to refresh your memory, http://youtube.com/watch?v=UHTuJLOnVvA BUT, I will warn you that it is the Japanese one, and it is all in color.) Anyways, I have always been interested, into how they are able to have such large amount of blood spurting. AND, if it was possible to achieve on a very low budget.

What would you suggest?

I remember seeing a behind the scenes for Sweeney Todd and No Country for old men. There are scenes in both of those movies where someone's throat is slit and huge amounts of blood fountain out. Basically, they took some putty-like substance, painted it to match the actor's skin, and then inserted some fake blood inside.
