Looking threw my new issue of HD Video Pro Magazine, I saw an ad for this adapter, very cool, I have no Idea if anyone has seen this, but I follow the forums a lot and I have yet to hear or see anything about it, At $749 its not that pricy, I have used my mamiya RB67 forever, but the lenses are soo slow. Ill check out the 645 lens line up.

The problem with those medium format lenses is you can't get any truly wide lenses for use on an adapter with a 1/3" chip camera. And the lenses are generally slow, like 2.8 or 4.5.

.

I agree, Maybe this adapter would be great for mostly outdoor shoots, or someone with a lot of lights, you would think they would come out with the Nikon, pentex, eos, ect... mounts soon for the sake of sales of there product.

Jon,
So many people requested footage from the maker posted online. But he only sends dvds to people who asks for it.

I havent seen a good sample footage from it yet.

Some lenses from 645 can be very bright. I have finished a project using mid format lenses ,
an 80mm f1.9( equivalent to normal in 35mm),
a 45mm f2.8 (wideangle in 35mm)
and a 150mm f3.5.

heres a thread i posted before with images from a DIY mid format adapter;
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=108664

Chris is right,
one reason i made another adapter for 35mm lenses is lack of versatility in available lenses, such as very wide like 15mm and very long ones like 200 or 300mm.

Medium and large and ultra large format is intended/capable of for long exposure times like for five seconds and the like for the true magic to appear. There is no way to accomplish 1/48th or 180 degree shutter with lenses intended for exposures that long it is dead end. Seek no further unless you can sync some strobes to your cam with your shutter speed or angle ;) (frames/flashes per sec). It can be done if you will but for what except for proving it or for Captain America FX shots?

Cheers,

Since when is F/2.8 a slow lens. There is a total misconception about the light transmition of the medium format lenses. Let's consider the adapters that have 2 stop light loss or 1 stop light loss and the lens is 1.4 after the light loss what is the actual light transmition going through the lens. 1 stop would be 2.8 and 2 stop would be F/4. I have almost no light loss in my adapter because there is nothing but the groundglass between the camera and the lens, no prism just groundglass. The lenses available for the Mamiya mount are 35mm, 45, 55, 75, 80, 110, 135, and more. Check out my website www.freewebs.com and see the super wide angle lens mounted on my HV20 and the Pro Optic adapter. I also have a 80mm F/1.9.

I am presently working on a video shot entirely with the adapter and I will post in Vimeo as soon as I finish it. I have some stuff in youtube, but youtube sucks as far as quality is concerned. If anyone has any questions please ask me wvargas@nyc.rr.com and I will answer your qustions, but there are so many comments and so many experts on the subject that I simply step aside.

by the way I have the only adapter on the market with a groundglass that is 2 1/4" x 1 5/8" the biggest so far.

When, like all lenses, you have to stop down to take advantage of the optimal balance of sharpness and dof. I don't really see an advantage to using medium format lenses when you can't (unless you have a lot of light) stop down. You want to shoot wide open with a medium format 2.8 lens? Go ahead. I'd think a good Nikkor or Canon lens closed down a stop to say 2 or 2 stops to 2.8 is going to look pretty good and you're way ahead on having enough level as compared to the same approach with a 2.8 lens.

What are you saying, this makes no sense at all. I have been shooting large format photography for over 30 years and I have no idea as to what you're saying.

You also have never posted any footage of your adapter, Winston, for the community to see.

Seeing as how you're the one that created it.

What I'm saying is, in order to take full advantage of a lenses sharpness, you need to stop down 1 to 2 stops. A wide open lens is not at its peak point of sharpness. I'd rather start with a faster Nikkor than a fast medium format lens especially considering the light loss with an adapter and the lack of sensitivity of an HVX200. I see handicaps in using medium format lenses on a lens adapter.

Just finished shooting some HD footage with the adapter. It will be posted in a few days.. I shot with a 30mm fisheye lens and an 80mm F/1.9 for those that sayvthat there aren't enough lenses in the medium format arena.

For those who have used a medium format adapter... how much resolution do you loose, and is edge to edge sharpness better?

edge to edge would be sharper cause you utilize the center of the lens [with 35mm adapter]... no weak corners to worry about. Less cost of the lenses could be another big plus. One might take a big hit in FOV at APS-C [academy]... but if you were to zoom out [vista] for wides? Rumor has it grain is less noticable with these, just waiting for someone to do this... esp Winston Vargas

In regards to video it is extremely slow! I hesitate to use my 2.8 lenses unless I'm either shooting outside or if I have the lights to pump out the power. A 2.8 lens requires a heck of a lot more light than a 1.4 AND you're wide open as opposed to a 1.4 at 2.8 where you're 2 stops closed. I never try to shoot with any lens wide open, you lose a heck of a lot of sharpness when you do so.

If you can do it man by all means go for it, another adapter with a new format is all in the works. I've never worked with medium format lenses before so I have no clue as to how they perform.

It's been well over a month since we were going to see hd footage from this adapter.

Did i miss the location of the link to full res hd demos of this adapter?
