Robbie Comeau

Como's back. back again
My friend is having a short script, and I am helping him with his script.

What is the average time to suffocate someone with plastic wrap?

Awesome topic.

You could suffocate someone in 30 seconds or it could take 30 minutes. It depends on how calm they are during your malicious act.

I always told myself I would fake death after twenty seconds and wait for the idiot to get off of me... after which I would go to work on his or her spine with the nearest sharp object. But, nothing EVER plays out how you imagine it.

EXACTLY what I would do.

If I'm ever getting strangled or whatever, I would fake death, then let them go away. Then wake up and go on DVXuser and share my story, and lurk around...

I SAY that, but maybe it's hard to fake it...

depends on:

(1) If the oxygen blockage is full or partial

(2) Lung Capacity

(3) Co2 Build up

its number (3) that kills, where (1) and (2) are the causes and variable.

Assuming average lung capacity and full blockage, my guess would be 1-5 minutes.

"Plastic wrap"... um, Robbie... be sure to give your friend a little slack in his plastic wrap when he starts to turn blue... better still why don't you guys just start with shoe laces and work your way up.

It's ok to experiment... but just be careful.

better still, go buy some Bambusa oldhamii (worlds fastest growing bamboo, approximately 4 foot a day) then:

(1) Cut the bamboos with a 45 degree cut, and sharpen the tip (can add poison if you so wish)

(2) Tie down your victim with the plants underneath, you may wish to us a metal bed frame with the plants underneath, make sure the bamboo trajectory path is not obstructed.

(3) Water the plants reqularly

(4) Set up a time lapse rig, to watch him/here at normal speed as the bamboo impregenates through him, hehehe :)

lol, I was just reading through your "My sister thinks I'm gonna be a murderer" thread then went to this.

I think I saw a plastic wrap suffocate scene in "Lucky Number Slevin" - 30 seconds maybe?

You know...I'm really scared being a part of this thread for some reason.
Robbie - remind your friend that it's "acting".

It actually takes longer to kill someone by Asphyxiation than a person would think. Depending on circumstances it would take around 1 minute to pass out then another 1-2 to die. I would say anhar is the closest to the actual time

Hey Robbie, it sounds to me like you're getting ready to murder someone. Is your sister turning out to be right?

...Edited by me for consious reasons...

Best to contact a police officer or forensics officer to get details. Possibly a medical personnel?

Remind me not to piss off Anhar :P

After sitting for a few minutes...

Really there is no reason you should have to accurately document the killing of someone. Not for film entertainment. Most people dont know and who's going to call you on it right? Don't worry about it. Fake it as long as it looks good.

I think you're not supposed to tell people you're making a snuff film. It's sorta one of those "inside thoughts" kinda things.

By the way, it is about 70 seconds. Unless you're both in good shape and you've been fighting for a few minutes - then it can be less than 20 seconds. Good luck!

** This message is not intended to encourage or advise on the act of suffocation or manual strangulation by any means and is for entertainment purposes only.

Actually, from what I have been reading hear, most everyone is way off. I had a previous career in the Emergency Medical Services, working as an EMT and Paramedic for almost 20 years. The basic goal of the modern EMS system is to beat a rather established timeline, to reduce the number of deaths from sudden cardiac death, one of the number one killers in our society. The standard, best case scenario goes like this. A person experiences a cardiac episode (usually a dysrythmia called ventricular fibrillation) and goes into cardiac arrest. At this point, his heart has stopped beating and they are not breathing. The best case is that the event is immediately recognized and CPR is initiated. The EMS system is activated and the combined resources of this system allows first responders (EMTs, Firefighters or Cops) to respond to the scene and provide electric defibrillation within 10 minutes. This is followed by the arrival of Paramedics who provide Advanced Life Support and stabilization to transport the patient to the hospital. This best case scenario has been widely studied and survival rates vary from as little at 5-10% to as high as 20%. In practical experience, I have seen individuals go into cardiac arrest, in the back of my ambulance, where I was able to apply the "paddles" within seconds that are still, "With the lord”, and I have seen patients that have been down for 20 minutes before our arrival that lived to walk out of the hospital.

So what does this say about how long it takes to strangle a person on screen? Well, in the real world it would take at least 5 to 10 minutes to kill someone by strangulation. Cinema does not have anything to do with the real world. In movie convention, it takes less than 2 minutes and they are really dead because they have stopped moving, which is also, bullsh*t!!!

re: Chase:

Instead of name calling, care to expand on why you feel that way?

Well I don't see how its sad, the Como asked a valid question, and the fellow people here have tried their upmost to give an acurate answer.

Knowledge is power..
