Ikan V8000W Monitor monitoring focus

I bought the Ikan V8000HD a few days ago. Returned it yesterday.

The Ikan appeared to have less resolution than either of the LCD displays in my DVX100B and Canon XHA1. Plus it did not display the peaking function of the Canon, nor the EVF DTL (electronic viewfinder detail) feature on the DVX - both REALLY important for consistent focus.

I decided it was easier to focus with the Canon's (tiny) LCD display with magnification and peaking than with the Ikan. And in the case of the DVX, ease of focus with the LCD vs. the Ikan was a wash.

For me, definitely not worth $800.

Actually he's talking about a different monitor, a consumer VGA model, although with the same res.

The V8000W will probably work, although it overscans. But you'll have to rig a powerpack or something to power it and you'll need a component to VGA converter.

I've used the V8000HD and the resolution is definitely higher than the A1's LCD. Hell of a lot easier to focus on with that. It output the magnify focus on the A1's LCD, which I use more often than peaking anyway. Not very well built though.

Composite input doesn't utilize the full resolution of the monitor. You're better off just using the onboard LCD.
